Anna Simmons and Rafe Brown try to snuff out the nightmares of their individual pasts together as their love grows in Heartaches Bad Boy Vibes 2, by H.M. Irwing. On the grounds of a military school in Melbourne, Australia Rafe beats his rapist, Eric Dayton, in a fight. Eric doesn't take this well and brings back up to take Rafe down. After knocking Rafe unconscious Eric gets Anna to agree to drop her case against her rapists, the Prestons.
With the Prestons out of the way, Anna becomes focused on helping her best friend, Pat Cash, tell his parents why he can't marry the girl who is betrothed to him. Unfortunately, the Prestons resurface quickly into Rafe's life as Peter Preston becomes engaged to Rafe's Aunt Bella. It doesn't take long for Rafe to realize there is a deeper connection to the Prestons than Anna or Aunt Bella, a connection that makes him push Anna out of his life.
As the nuptials of Aunt Bella and Peter Preston draw closer it becomes obvious that the host of the wedding, Ned Slater, has more on the agenda than a wedding. There are so many twists and turns with the wedding activities, but it appears that the Prestons and Eric Dayton's reign of terror over Anna and Rafe might soon be over.
This is the second book in this trilogy and I couldn't put it down! Even though it picked up right where the first book left off I found this book more appealing. I didn't find any part of this book that I didn't enjoy. The love story of Anna and Rafe is my favorite part of the book. They have so much emotional baggage it doesn't seem possible for them to find true love. I'm hoping their love for each other can withstand the inner turmoil they both suffer with.
The inner turmoil they both suffer from being raped by someone trusted is not the easiest thing to read about, but the author uses it in a way that it connects and strengthens the bond between Anna and Rafe. Rape is a taboo subject that would normally turn me off and drop my interest, in this book it was done as tastefully as possible to add to the storyline without making me feel uncomfortable.
H.M. Irwing has written this book in the first and third person. The descriptive narrative used made it easy to visualize everything like I was standing right next to the characters. Using the first person narrative helped to connect with the true feelings of the characters and see things from their point of view. The erotic sex scenes were definitely enhanced by the descriptive narrative, nothing was left for the imagination.
Heartaches Bad Boy Vibes 2 appears to be professionally edited as I only found some spacing errors. Since there were only minor printing errors and I loved the storyline I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars. I highly recommend this book to any mature reader who enjoys erotic romance books with a mysterious twist. Due to the sexual nature, I don't recommend this book to young readers.
