The life journey of four tight-knit sisters who manage to be successful women despite growing up in a somewhat dysfunctional family unravels in Mary J. Williams’ narrative, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. Calder, Destry, Andi, and Bryce are the formidable sisters who have an enviable bond.
Their mother is unique in the unlikable fashion of continually needing to be in love with a man.
When Calder is about twenty-nine years old, she witnesses between both parents a dozen marriages and divorces. All the daughters demonstrate emotional intelligence about their mother’s depressed state following a breakup. Calder mused that her mother’s display of a short memory of her previous heartaches must be a "wonderful faculty" to possess.
In an unorthodox fashion, they become particularly worried about one particular suitor of their mom who they consider a "sleazeball" with sinister intentions of causing their mother financial ruin. Billie is a somewhat dysfunctional modern-day mother figure who perhaps wisely transmits her mothering role to the housekeeper, Mrs. Finch. Mrs. Finch does a much better job at mothering and guiding the Benedict daughters than their birth mother could ever manage. Calder, the central female protagonist, finds herself romantically attracted to Adam after a few unpredictable meetings. Fortunately, for her, Adam is equally enamored with her. One or two conflicts arise that threaten to destroy their deep budding relationship.
All the men and women of this narrative are credible, well-developed and engaging individuals reflecting a spectrum of the middle and upper-class society work ethic. The Benedict sisters’ are wealthy not only in financial acquisition but they are also emotionally and spiritually rich from the deep bonds of love and communication they carefully foster. Edwin Calder, Calder’s father, is a loafer who is merely interested in acquiring disposable income from the generosity of his wealthy kin.
ONE WAY OR ANOTHER is a romantic narrative that warms the heart of the reader and facilitates an easy-going pleasurable reading experience with a few surprising twists and turns in the story that makes it an exciting read. The leading male protagonist Adam is a lovable male who demonstrates great respect for women’s rights. He is a flawed character who shows unusual emotional intelligence as well as guarding against his darker potential to be a destructive being. This fantasy romance merits 4 out of 4 stars for the refreshing and positive development of a holistic monogamous relationship. This book is recommended for person ages 18 and over, due to the obscene language use and graphic sexual content. The book appears to be professionally edited, as I was hard-pressed to find an error.

The sisters do have an enviable bond. Thanks for commenting.
