One way or another by Mary J Williams is a contemporary romance genre book. It is the first installment of the sister’s quartet book series. It follows the story of Calder Benedict, a woman privileged to have grown up in riches. However, she turned out to be a responsible young woman running her charity organization from her trust fund. Calder has been hurt before. Because of her status, she became a magnet for men that were only interested in her money and not having a relationship with her.

Enter Adam stone, like Calder he is rich too. But unlike her, he did not grow up in a rich family. Everything that he owns he acquired out of his own sweat. Calder is not sure about his intentions with her. Will he turn out like all the other men that have been with her before? Is he genuinely interested in pursuing a relationship with her? They are a pair whose first encounter with each other was rather unplanned. Their daily routine sees them run into each other without intending to.

Calder and her sisters are a force to reckon. While they may have grown in a rich home, they have not been as lucky in their relationships with men. Mary j. Williams writing style brings out the best and the worst of these sisters. Though she has dedicated each sister a book to tell their story, in this first installment she tries as much as possible to introduce the reader to all the sisters so that the reader is able to know what to expect in the other subsequent installments. This she does without losing focus on Calder; the subject of the first installment. Calder’s love story is not overshadowed by the details of the other sisters.

The cover photo of the book also stays true to this fact. Presumably Mary j.William puts up partial photo of the sisters on the lower part of the cover photo while Calder and Adam occupy the upper part. That is an indication that this first installment will focus on one sister. I found that admirable. William does a good job at bringing out the different characteristics of women through the sisters. The sisters have the same mother but different father. At first I was under the impression that their patriarchal differences would play out in their relationship as sisters. But I was quickly proved wrong when they displayed unity and love for each other. I expected the sisters to fight over their inheritance but as it turned out money was not a determinant in the sister’s relationship. I found that rather unusual but interesting.

Overall, the writer does a good job at developing the story and the characters. I’m positive the other three installments in this sister quartet series will develop the other sister’s character without either of them overshadowing the other. The book seemed professionally edited because I found no grammatical errors or typos plus the language used wasn’t too complex. The themes of family and friendship were clearly brought out through the characters. I recommend the book to those that have a liking for stories on friendships and relationships. This being a holiday season, I am considering taking the second installment of the series on my upcoming road trip. I rate One way or another 4 out of 4 stars.
