The Movie vs. Book

I read the book when i was 14. That was a whopping 5 years ago!! it is and always will be my absolute favorite book. I thought the movie was very spot on, the only thing i did not like was that there was a line in the book that was not used in the movie. this happens to be my absolute favorite quote from anything ever.

Was the movie, "The Book Thief" better than the book? It has come out already right? Sometimes the books are way better than the movie.

For me, the book was better. But that is often the case - a lot of detail gets lost in the transition to celluloid, and the way you imagine a particular story playing out in your head often is at odds with what a director decides to do. That's how I felt with Percival's vision for the story. I didn't dislike the film, but I had a different version of the story in my head from reading the book, and that made it jar somewhat.

I almost always prefer the book to the movie. Books are better because they are able to delve further into the thoughts and feelings of the characters and provide more detail to the story. Movies tend to require a lot of assumptions from the viewer. Often when I watch a film of a book I haven't read I feel as if I am trying to catch up on what the story is about rather than learning from the film itself. So for this reason I usually prefer to read the book first, familiarising myself with the story. Then I like to sit back and watch the film already knowing what it is about. But I try not to compare the film to the book too much otherwise I almost always find myself disappointed that the film doesn't live up to the details of the book.

I have watched the movie and I really enjoyed it and it’s a book that is definitely on my list of must reads, so I can’t determine whether it is better or worse yet.

I think The Book Thief is one of the few books in which the movie is almost equally good. I really loved them both; I don't think I could choose between them.

I liked the book and the movie equally. I do think I lean towards the movie because I vividly remember it. As opposed to the book, which I read, cried, and then vowed to never read again.

I think this book would make a great limited series, with 8 or 10 episodes. There is so much detail and nuance that can't be expressed in 2 hours. The book was considerably better than the book, but I think there is potential for a creative format to do justice to the content.

The book and the movie are equally good in their own way. The book was literally one which brought tears to my eyes. Zusak's words are so powerful.

I really liked the movie, my only complaint was that Max in the movie did not say my favorite quote. He said "living is living, the price is guilt and shame" in the book. I was sad to see this was not included in the movie but It was still true to the story line.

I definitely believe that the book was better as I do almost all book to movie adaptations. I feel like the movie did do a good job of creating drama and portraying emotion though.

The movie did not contain my favorite quote from the book. It was a line max said to her They didnt have it in the movie I was dissapointed by that but otherwise the movie was great.

Actually, I watched the movie first and enjoyed it so much.
But then, I read the book and was so mesmerized by everything that I forgot all about the movie. The book was just so well-written that I’d rather read a hundred times more than watch its movie.

I loved the book. I was pretty far into the book before I realized that the narrator was death which was very appropriate considering the storyline. I loved the movie too. It was one of the few movies that did justice to the book that it was based on. I thought the actors did an incredible job.

The book is definitely better. I have not seen the entire movie but that is because I loved the book so much that I did not feel too kin on the movie.
