Loved Death. In fact, I found him uplifting. He had the whole picture of the war and felt for his customers. Did he have a soul? Anyway, I found it fascinating to see the world from his perspective.

Death was my favorite as it had an interesting take on the story itself.

Besides Liesel, I liked Rudy and the Mayor's wife. Rudy's bubbly personality and childishness made me really love him as a character. I also really liked the mayor's wife because she was very kind to Liesel and had a bigger role than expected.

I agree with several others here. Death is my favorite character. I have never encountered any other author who made death the narrator of a story. It's so unique and well done. I also like how the story shows how average citizens were experiencing the events surrounding the Holocaust. All in all this was an amazing story.

If I had to choose, I would choose Death. It fascinated me whenever it spoke about herself(?). But Papa was wonderful, with his accordion and Liesel was just amazing.

My favorite character would have to be Papa. He does so much for Liesel and is such a strong and caring character.

Been a long time. Seeing this forum made me recall the book and reading the comments helped me remember the characters and some parts. My favorite character is Liesel because of her strong will, like getting into the library of the Mayor's wife.

Liesel for her bravery, goodness of heart and undaunted nature, Hans for his immense kindness, Rudy for his tenacity to follow his dreams, Max again for bravery, rebellious nature and making Liesel realize her strength with words, and finally Death for everything!

Many liked Death but as for me I love Liesel's adoptive mother. I forgot her name but what i do remember about her is she swears a lot, say a lot of bad things about other people's ways but she truly loved Liesel and Hans. I love the way she endures his husband's absence during the war. Especially in the eyes of Liesel when she was praying for the safety of her husband while hugging his musical instrument. She also shocked everyone with her humanity when she accepted Max in her home and promise to feed him as much as she can.

It is a really tough choice between Rudy and Max. I felt like Max has the wisdom, but Rudy grew up with her throughout the book and the war.

Max was always my favorite and i was so happy to see that he came back in the end. I read this book nearly 6 years ago and it is still my favorite out of them all.

I liked the narrator Death the most actually, he's what makes the whole book amazing and so unique in my opinion. I love how he describes the sky changing colors as he's picking up souls and the hints of him having feelings despite his job requiring him to remain cold and composed.
