Major record label

In my newest novel in progress, my protagonist as a singer/songwriter who signs with a new, independent label. As her career progresses, I would like to have her sign with a major label like RCA, Columbia, Warner Brothers, etc. Can I get away with this, or do I have to make up something for a major label?

I'm not sure the specifics, but I would suggest making up a new label just to be safe, or she could even be what causes the independent label to become a major label.
