the basics.... (sure it's the frivolous details, but sometimes they can make a difference) !

When you're not here at the keyboard, what kind of writing utensils, paper, etc do you like to use?
Pens? Pencils - regular or mechanical? Fountain or calligraphy pen? Crayon? Maker? Favorite gel pen?

What do you write on?
Notebook paper (college or wide ruled)?
Or do you use a journal, a yellow legal pad, any random napkin you can find at the time, computer paper, your hand, what?

Do you have to have a certain kind of writing utensil and a certain kind of paper to get the creativeness flowing? A favorite pen?

Where do you like to write?
On the sofa, in your room, outside, on the roof, in the basement, where? Which place gives you the most inspiration?

For me I like pen so much better than pencil. It doesn't smear and it is stronger than a pencil. You don't have to sharpen it, and you don't have to look around for an eraser when you run out of one. Plus pencil is basically saying that there's no confidence in what one is writing....
For paper I use whatever is there or available (sometimes one's characters just start talking and there's nothing one can do but scrawl it out on a napkin), but mainly a notebook - college ruled. When I'm not at the computer I like to write in my room or in the place of my current inspiration. I really like using liquid gel pens and calligraphy pens - they make my handwriting look good

I almost always use a computer. I can't write very much on paper without my hands getting soar.

I suppose I prefer a pen to a pencil, but it depends on the situation. I will use a pencil if I may need to do erasing. Also, sometimes pens won't write well on certain surfaces.

Well, I only write with a pen, black pen, i don't care much for blue. Secondly I write really hard so my hand always cramps up so I actually do most of my writing on the computer. And Lastly, Pencil sucks. What more needs to be said.

I tend to use any pen that happens to be handy of which there are usually dozens lying around.

i have two cup holders that were given to me as gifts filled with various types of pens and markers and my desk draw that has the left over has two packages of pen that aren't open and some that are there. I find that the best pens are the ones that you get from doctors offices and are given to them by drug reps. they write so nicely.

I usually write while sitting in a soft recliner chair with a laptop. Oftentimes the television or radio are playing and I tune in and out as I progress. However, I always keep pens (Black and Red) on the nearby end table with a notebook. The notebook proves invaluable for your notes, ideas, references, interruptions, things to remember, etc. It helps if you put a date on the notebook page for chronological reasons as your word count grows. A schedule is probably best, but I just fit the writing in where I can. That's why I keep everything near with easy access. Anyway, just keep going till you get where you want!

At home, when writing notes, cards, or letters, I always use a pen and prefer black fine. But, at work, I always use a mechanical pencil to write daily notes in my work notebook. Funny, if I am in a meeting with a bunch of people, everyone uses a pen except me. Just my preference. I got my 12 yr old daughter liking nothing but mechanical pencils as well.

What is a mechanical pencil? Sounds very steampunk! If it is what I think it is (propelling pencil) I break the lead too much. My preference is an ordinary pencil, usually HB, accompanied by a sharpener which catches the shavings.
Most of the time I use a medium black pen.
