Short stories?

Post by proudmom25 »

If you had to write a short story what would inspire you? A book, movie, real life?

That's kind of a tough question to answer, for me it's usually a combination of things.

I remember in elementary school I had to write a short story for an English test. We could make it about literally anything we wanted. My inspiration was a combination of other books I had read along with imaginary games I played with my friends and the characters we came up with.

I remember this because I had a lot to go with and had trouble making it a "short" story. The teacher eventually had to tell me to stop and shorten the story lol.

But although I have not actually written any short stories since then, I do have little stories in my head that I should probably actually sit down and write some time. But they are all combinations of experiences I have had, dreams, movies, books. So on and so forth. :-)

Real life incidents always inspire to write. If at all I decide to write, I would definitely choose to write about an real life incident.

I don't usually write short stories--I prefer to stick to novels, probably since that's what I prefer to read. But every now and then I'll see something that will spark an idea, an idea that probably couldn't be stretched the length of a novel but would make for a great short story. I've written one short story based on this, and I have other ideas floating around. But I always seem to go back to the novel. :)
