There's also the distinction between SF and sci-fi (however you spell it). SF means genuine science fiction that's authentic. Sci-fi means derivative version, like "Sharknado" and other goofy stuff, or maybe the Transformer movies. In other words, trash.

Genuine old-school SF fans are very sensitive to this difference, and an author no less than Harlan Ellison spoke loads about the gap.

But SF or sci-fi is not fantasy, either. Fantasy is stuff like anything with demons or dragons or sorcerers. SF may deal with an alien invasion but it has to be factually possible and make sense within the scope of actual scientific reality.

For instance, I tend to write (and read) romance, but I'm a hopeless romantic so I don't know if mine counts lol. What does anyone else do?
When I write most days it's due to my role on a sci fi blog where I have a TV show, book, or audio to get through and analyse.

My creative writing can be about anything and everything. I'm easily bored and just like all sorts of genres.
