Thanks. I'll be starting a thread about the deal soon, not to brag but to illustrate to newbie writers how they can do this and the ups and downs about such.

I'm kinda trumpeter about conventional publishing, how too many here accept the common idea that conventional publishing is all controlled by evil bigwigs who shove writers around and the only "true" way is to self publish. But I follow the direction of money flow. If it's out of your wallet (or purse) then it's the wrong direction.

@moderntimes

I'm looking forward to it. Blogs only tell us so much. It would be nice to hear it from the source for a change.

I am with you all. I submit but so.etimes they don't always work out. In between those submittions i do a lot of co tent mills. They don't pay a lot but it is helping my writing more then i ever thought it would. Textbroker.com actually reviews your articles and offers suggestions on how to improve your sentence structure.

I know how difficult it is to get conventionally published, regardless of whether you write articles, short stories, or novels.

I really don't know which market is more difficult. Thing about a short piece like a story, is that your newbie effort can be purchased and put in a group of maybe 20 other stories so the publisher isn't taking a chance just on you, but on 1/20 of the total revenue potential. This means that your story will be more likely to be seen.

However, there are fewer magazines these days and so the market is tighter. Whereas for full length books, fiction or not, publishing has actually opened up a bit. This is because with POD (print on demand) the setup costs for putting out a full length book are less than years back and so a publisher can more easily afford to take on a newbie writer and put out the book -- getting a book formatted for Kindle is dirt cheap and not at all expensive for POD.

Now of course there's an initial investment which the publisher still must absorb before any profits can be realized via royalties.

Incidentally, this July I was blown away because a small but "legit" (non subsidy, non vanity) publisher signed me to a 3-book contract! All 3 of my private detective novels are gonna be published in both paperback and e-book. In fact the Amazon listings are just now posted for the book. Nifty.

But it's darn hard to get placed, I admit. I got lucky and it all fell into place. Now I'm energized to keep working on my 4th novel in the series. Anyone wanting more info on this can PM me and I'll give you my website.
