When I was writing, I would have multiple tabs open on the computer. One for the actual book and several other ones for research and other things like character profiles, timelines, scene summaries, etc. I rarely do anything on paper. I can't listen to music or the TV while I write. I get distracted too easily. I also need to have a huge block of time to spend writing, because once I am in that zone, I won't stop until I get exhausted.
