yes the plots and resolutions may be similar but in order to be original you have to make the setting current, the characters relevant and the language relateable..i have always wanted to write a story but everytime i try it becomes a sort of stream of consciousness that is very hard to follow when i read back to myself...
I did although notice that most engaging stories have the character in a setting where you can immersed in..as if you are living or watching the very scene unfolding infront of you..

it truly is a craft that has to be mastered

Thank you for your post! But if you want my opinion...it is not a matter of original or not! it's a matter of who writes the story? and the answer is a Human...all humans are thinking the same way...I mean the structure of all humans are the same we are similar to each other by 99.99 percent the only different between any human and the other is only 0.01?! wooow can you imagine that! Thats why?! Most of humans have got the same fears and the same worries! Thats why most of the books looks the same...

Thank you again and again for your precious post and wishing you all the best of luck!

I find myself doing the same thing, especially my poetry. I'll write something and as I read it back it sounds like all the other poetry I've written. As for my short stories, they too always seem similar to something else I've read.

Well, I would agree to what one fellow mentioned that since we read books and watch movies that portray certain ideas, so whenever we try to give words to our own thoughts, those ideas just clog our mind and we end up using the same thing over. However, there would be something entirely yours because whatever the case is, it is impossible to be 100% original anyway.
