I remember some who used to type using a pencil way back when. I wonder if anybody does that anymore?

I like writing with pencils and pens both, but Ball Point Pens are smooth and well sharpened pencils write thin and neat...

I love using pen. I feel there's something romantic about writing in ink. I'm an old-fashioned kind of gal.

When writing I prefer either the smallest, tiniest pen tip I can find, or a fountain pen. Preferably a fountain pen but they get expensive.
Somewhere out there is a world we never knew existed.

Languages never spoken.
Colors that should not be.
Lives never opened.
Eyes that never see.

And then the page is turned, a universe created.

We are gods.

This is tough. It all depends on how much you doodle and how finely you wish to write. Because a bulky pen tip that leaves little ink smears can be sooooo frustrating. But a pencil that doesn't look dark enough on paper can be annoying too. I think I would most often choose a very fine-tipped pen.

A keyboard get's most of my attention, but I typically write neater with a pencil and I like the slide of it across paper - bonus, you can erase mistakes.

When I find a good pen, it always manages to disappear from my desk! I thinks pens are magical like that!

Usually I use pencil. When I get done with the first draft I use pen to mark any corrections. However if I am inspired and only have a pen handy then of course I will use it :)

I like pens, but my teachers in school used to get mad at me because they said I couldn't erase my mistakes in pen. Simple solution: either cross out, or don't make mistakes! ;)

1. A pencil is eco-friendly. The fact that it is made of wood means you’re not harming the environment while you use it, unlike a plastic pen.
2. It’s a great buy-one-get-one-free offer – buy a pencil and you get an eraser on top free, well, most of the time. The pen has no such added benefits.
3. You get all the colours of the rainbow. Pencils come in numerous colours, whereas a pen normally comes in one of four shades – blue, black, red and green.
4. A pencil allows flexibility. Want to change something? Simply use the eraser on top.
The scratches of a pen give the impression of a fickle mind.
5. A pencil is more artistic. Feel like doodling or scribbling on a scrap of paper? Go ahead, use a pencil. It’ll look like a potential masterpiece. With a pen it’ll seem as if a cockroach took an ink bath and decided to crawl across your scrap of paper.
6. There is a certain satisfaction in sharpening pencils that pen users will never experience.
7. Fragility comes in handy. A pencil can simply break in two but that means we can share it with friends; after all, sharing is caring. This isn’t possible with pens.
8. A pencil allows your artistic skills to flourish with varied darkness and shadings. Pens are just one boring colour.
9. A pencil will never make ink smudges on your hands or clothes – it’s awful to be an adult and look like a child.
10. Pencils are cheap. Compared to a pen, a pencil generally costs less and is, therefore, definitely more attractive.

I can't believe all of the discussion about writing utensils that is taking place here. It's amazing! I usually write with anything I get my hands on, pen or pencil, just to get my thoughts down on paper before I forget how I want to say them. My son is a writer also and he is obsessed with pens and writing paper. I don't think he has a preference. If it's cool then he needs it. I think it makes writing even more fun for him to have a big supply to choose from for whatever mood he is in.

I would have to say I prefer the keyboard. making adjustments and corrections are alot easier, plus I can type alot faster than I can write. it's tough to keep a train of though going when you can't capture it fast enough.

If I had to choose between the two I would have to go with the pen. Although they have the annoying tendancy to suddely stop, freeze up or just plain die, I find the ink holds up better over time than pencil. Pencil seems to fade and smudge to easily. As for erasing mistakes, there are erasable pens.
