I ghostwrote one novella and let my sister read the before and after copies. She loved mine (before) and said she couldn't get past page 10 in the after novel.

I don't think we can trust our families to be objective. I call it AIS. The American Idol Syndrome. Your friends and family tell you you're great and really pump you up to get out there and do something with it then you meet up with a Simon Cowell who tells you the truth.

I have just started to write and I find that I don't let anyone read my work. I think this is because I don't want to hear any opinions other than from my intended audience. If I get something published, then I let people read my work (but only if they ask).

My younger brother sort of traumatized me while we were growing up. He would grab one of my notebooks I was writing in and lock himself in the bathroom and start reading it through the door, yelling and laughing. That's why I don't let anybody read my stuff. I'd probably get the same reaction.

I never make any of my writing public but I do send out submissions to literary magazines

I have plenty of minor works that I keep to myself. Not because they're not good or anything but they're spur of the moment writing and something I write because I wanted to at the time. They're just little snippets that I wrote as an outlet for my emotional state at the time of writing or because I just had to write it to get it out of my head.

For me, not much more than a day goes by with out writing. I've been this way for decades!

I write responses to stories, goals, thoughts, dreams, memories, frustrations, temptations........the pen is a sort of extension to my hand! I also write for my family, I write about my children and stories too precious not to capture.

I used to write Christmas stories for my kids when they were little. They didn't really appreciate them then but now that they're tweens, they want me to read them to them. It's kind of cool.

I really should write another one...
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

I show people my short stories, but with the novella or the full length stories I'm too nervous too. I always think there's more things to improve, and my novella has a character going insane, one story has a lot of death, one has implied rape...it's a lot of stuff that I'm worried my parents would be disturbed by or see me differently for writing.

I understand. I used to worry about what my mom would think if she saw the love scenes in the romances I write. They're rated G compared to what's going around today. My mom has since walked on and now I worry about what my kids would think.

It's really squelched my writing to be honest but in another way, it's been good because I learned to write a love scene without crudeness and maybe with a little style and class.

I wish we could stop worrying about this stuff but really, how do we do that?

I don't really show any of my literary stuff to anyone. Unless it's a course requirement. But other than that, nada. First of all, I'm not really confident that my writings are acceptable to readers. I seldom post on social network even if I really wanted to. Or I think I can't put it into words. Or words cannot suffice, kidding. I can't find the right words to say and also afraid that I would make a fool of myself. Second, I don't think what I say will be significant. Unless it's a joke 8) . My blog is empty. Third, I took a lot of time thinking what to write. And by the time I finished writing, the urge to post my work has been gone.

I hear you.

I have the potential to have this thing called AIS...American Idol Syndrome. It's when your family and friends tell you you're great and really push you to get yourself out there and when you finally do, you run into somebody like Simon Cowell who tells you you're dreadful.

Yeah, I can do without that humiliation. I've dealt with that on another level, thank you very much.

I write about a lot of different things. It helps to keep the ideas flowing, and my mind sharp. And, if I ever want to go back to an idea that I started, I can, and it will be there waiting for me(:

I have a blog so I write a lot, mainly about my horses, sometimes about my other writings, sometimes about my book, and then I've got three published works and several ideas that I'm working on. I don't let slip much about the things I'm intending to get published though.
