I would be fine with either, but I would really like to try the anthology at least once.

Both are really good ideas, but I would rather have my work published and get recognition than a small fee. Good luck with this project!

I would do either, but an anthology sounds better to me.

An anthology is a really positive credit for serious short story writers. I would go with the anthology.

The anthology would be a good idea, but I feel like the writers would have to agree on a theme. I don't think I would buy a book that had two horror stories, two romances, and an adventure in it.

Anthology, mostly because I am just starting out as a "serious" writer and I think the anthology would have more readers. Also, I don't think writing contest are all that "profound", as intrinsically they are opinion based. I accept that opinions are helpful, but I think its better to have a large number of opinions than the opinion of the board that decides the outcome of the contest. I would also like to see who else's work was in the anthology with mine. I think it would be helpful to know who I was considered to be like.

ANTHOLOGY - a collection of choice writings! A brilliant idea, more fun than a competition and gives more people a chance to shine! It would also showcase a wider diversity of styles.

I'm voting for 'Short Story Competition' because anthologies are a hard sell these days. My experience is you can put out the most wonderful, most varied, most talent-laden anthology...and hardly anyone will actually buy or read it. I know that sounds harsh, but anthologies have gone almost totally dead. They had their heydey in the 50's and 60's, with books like 'The Year's Best Science Fiction', etc. but these days it seems everyone wants to read standalone books. And I don't know why this is, but it seems to be the case. Even some famous authors have had trouble moving their short story collections. It's a serious bummer all around.

Those are just my opinions, of course. I'm going to put a caveat on all this, though. I suppose if the anthology was issued strictly for the Kindle or something, you might have better success because you can publish Kindle books for free. With a paperback there are expenses you may never re-coup. (ISBN cost, yearly digital database fees, etc)
