Is there anything more annoying than. . .

Having a phone call.
Not just any phone call, but: when you're writing, and all of a sudden the phone rings, and when the call is over you can't return to the same coherent flow you were in earlier.
Happens to me all the time.

I know exactly what you mean! And it's always my mother or a telemarketer. Always. I think they some kind of alien radar going on!

I also find it annoying when people talk to you when you're writing.
I just want to scream 'leave me alone!' at them

No doubt. As soon as you get done talking to whoever that called or talked while you were trying to read or write, it's tough to get back into that groove. It's like you'll be enjoying the piece that you're reading, or you're writing smoothly and thoughts are flowing out perfectly, but once you're distracted it's hard to return to that same state of mind.

I always put my answer machine on and select just a couple of rings before it picks up.

Interruptions of any kind can really screw up your train of thought, but having said that sometimes a break, even a brief one, can help if you're wrestling with an awkward paragraph or sentence.

Interruption while doing any work is sometimes very annoying and that too when you are doing something very important. So better ignore that interruption so that you can continue your work. It all depends on the priority.

I hear ya! I only use my cell phone now. (got rid of my landline), so when I am working, I simply put the ringer on mute.

There is nothing more annoying than being interrupted by anything when I am writing. I don't like the person I am when I get interrupted when I am involved so I choose to write when no one else is around, like early in the morning or late at night. I also put my phone on silence during the day when I am trying to get something done and answer my messages when I have finished whatever I wanted to work on. People who call don't know what you are doing when they call so I don't rush to the phone unless I have made arrangements with someone to call at a certain time.

The most annoying thing has to be noisy eaters. I feel physically sick when I hear people chomping, slurpping and slapping their chops when they eat.

Yes, there is something more annoying than getting a phone call.
