Favorite time of day to write?

Post by sherlyholmes »

Just as the subject says! I prefer to write in the late hours of the night...er, morning. I love to write at midnight or sometimes later at about 2 to 3 in the morning. When do you guys like to write?

I'm a night owl. I usually write every single night from 8 PM - Midnight (sometimes later). I follow this with at least two hours of reading.

Never before 4pm and never after 5am. Sweet spot is around 11pm-3am :)

My brain is one of the most unpredictable things I've ever had to deal with! Sometimes I can shell out page after page during the midafternoon. Sometimes I have no choice but to open the computer and start in at one or three in the morning. I just never know when my imagination and faculties will be turned on...

I prefer waking up early in the morning before anyone else is awake and writing until I either get tired, or I have gotten just a little passed where I wanted to end. Comfortable quiet is what helps me the most so I cannot get much done until those early hours.

Ah, quiet, sweet quiet... I cherish my time alone in silence. I'm like Melvin Udall that way.

I personally enjoy the wee hours of the night. Hardly any cars are on the road, almost all are tucked into their beds not annoying me with loud music, and I can go into my room, close the blinds, and turn out the lights so that the room is nearly pitch black, erasing all visual distractions, except for the light of my computer screen. This creates the atmosphere I need to bring my stories to life. Not to mention get the most work done ;-)

I can write any time of the day or night...providing no one is in the house. But since I'm a night person, nighttime is my preferred time.

I think a lot of the better writers were and are night people... That's why so many of the most amazing stories have the darkest elements... and always seem to end at the end of a day... :D

For me I prefer night its when I have my best ideas, plus all that I experienced earlier in the day comes full circle. Though I am still known to write in the mornings too. Night is also better for me...less distraction and I can actually hear myself think.

Lately the time of day I seem to be most creatively enlivened at is about seven in the evening. I'll write from then to about ten- thirty or so. Then another muse strikes at around midnight. Apparently it's not as odd as I originally thought and was told by people I know who, well, don't write! :D

My brain works after midnight the same way normal people work in the morning after a few cups of coffee. I am energetic, bouncing off the wall with ideas. I just keep going until I can't think straight.
