Something we did a lot of was "free writing" exercises - basically you set a timer and then make yourself write for x amount of time. It doesn't matter if you write complete nonsense, you just have to keep writing!
Another thing I liked to do was set up a playlist of music and then use that music as sort of the "soundtrack" to the story...I have one book no one will ever read based on a Pink Floyd album, lol.
When I was in middle school and high school creative writing came a lot more naturally - now for me mostly all I do is article writing. (It pays the bills better for now!) I still like poetry too but writing fiction just hasn't been a priority for me lately!

I always find that just sitting, staring into space can help too. It sounds really simple, but it is the true form of creativity, unhindered, brain power! Give it a go... I
always do it, just not when I´m supposed to

Here's something you can try that we do in my creative writing class a lot. Its called 15 Minute Fiction.
So far we have:
*Written about a strange picture [just describing it or writing about what is happening in the picture]
*Taken a few different words to incorporate with different ideas you have flowing through your mind
*Use a starter sentence or topic that states a simple idea [like light and shadows]
*Looking for quotes and writing about the meaning of
Reading a lot can help you with ideas and so can music. Pick your favorite book or song and write along the emotions of that piece... Hope that helps in any way.

Just start writing your thoughts, depict your state of mind and that's all!

I always believe it's the mood that matters. Make you are well-relaxed and listen to some music to stir up the inspiration.

I also used to suffer from the same problem. Think that you are going to speak in front of audience and are trying to convince them with your saying. Your content should be catchy, not too much technical and grammatically correct touching all the fields.

A great way to get your juices flowing and an interesting exercise is to pick five very random words. The more random the better. Then sit down for ten minutes and write one paragraph with all of these words - your paragraph should be a very small story in itself; a beginning, middle and an end.
This will open up your mind and is a great way to start of before writing anything.
