Staying Focused

Post by Thebooknerd24 »

So I am currently writing and working on my first book. I have about six and a half chapters written thus far and I'm very slowly continuing my work on it. I am a full time house wife which means I have plenty of time to work on my book but I have trouble staying focused. I started writing back in the fall of last year and I want to be working on it every day but I find it difficult to stay focused. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stay focused and really work on my manuscript? Is it just a matter of discipline? Any suggestions or thoughts would be really appreciated!

Some strategies are to set specific times when you write. If you have someone willing to proof read/edit your work that will give you a time frame to finish certain parts of the story. Give yourself mini and major deadlines to reach certain points (eg. write two pages today, finish chapter 7 by the end of the week, etc.). You may need to leave the house and go to a library or bookstore or coffee shop to keep not see the things you need to do later at home, to not allow things like the tv or neighbours to distract you or to even have some inspiration from the strangers that will pass by. The general point is to change some aspect of what you currently do to get you mind unstuck. Hope this sparks a few ideas.
