What Inspires You???

Post by Wordblocked1 »

Some of the craziest things in this world inspire me. I didn't know if it was just me, but I tend to people watch and interact in grocery store lines even right down to my friends babbling on the phone about their drama or being at my kids birthday party and watching children having a good time talking about eight year old things...and a simple word will bring an AHHAAA! moment for me :) For those who may need jazz, candles, a quiet space, to sit in a tree, or maybe even an internet cafe... what inspires you when you write or when you are trying to find your spark again, please share. It could inspire someone :D

Reading others books.

Watching the world.

Thinking.

Watching the real life can inspire me a lot. Real life is so unexpected and crazy that not a single writer can imagine the problems or the topics.

I think I am most inspired by reasoning that I do in my head. I'll try to gather up as much new material from the outside world as I can including books, movies, video games, music, and observed behaviors from the people that surround me. This gathered material isn't really what I would call inspiration for me though. This material is only fuel and is meaningless on its own. The inspiration comes when I am able to connect these ideas together.

It varies a lot for me. I get inspiration from other books, from just thinking randomly until "hey, that sounds cool!" or even just writing for hours. I do like candles, but I think that's more just because I have a tibit of pyromania in my mind than some mystical quality of inspiration.

I get my inspiration when people criticize me for my work, it motivates, then I feel from inside that I have to prove my work to the world.

odd things at odd times. a lingering look from someone, the smell of someone after not seeing them for a long time, the way someone laughs when they think no one is looking. Transparency, vulnerability in people inspires me. Children inspire me because they are always transparent and vulnerable.

Nature inspires me. The beauty of nature is what inspires me.

Life inspires me. There is nothing that happens around us that doesn't happen for a reason, or that is not set into motion by a previous set of circumstances. Delving into the 'why' is a great way to jump-start our creative thinking.
