written evaluation for the disney movie Alice in Wonderland
Have you ever felt life was so topsy turvy that you entered a whole different world? Maybe it was just your imagination… Maybe it was a dream… Alice in Wonderland is a classic animated children’s movie. It was produced by Walt Disney in 1951. It’s about a little girl’s adventure in her own world she imagines. She meets many different characters and tries different ways to get home. I think this movie is a good movie because it has a lot of key elements that make a movie. It has good voice acting which is what makes animated movie believable, also it has very interesting characters, an entertaining plot, and a clear theme and because most movie watchers like to be entertained, make them feel something, and make them think, Alice in Wonderland is a good movie..
The voice acting is an important thing in any animated movie and this causes the movie watcher to be entertained. The voice is a powerful tool to express emotion. In an animated movie the cartoon characters show emotion but it is also the job of the voice actor to show the right emotion believably just through their voice. This is not easy to do but in this movie it feels like it’s actually the cat talking or the flowers really singing. That is an element that all animated movies must have and in this movie the emotions are tied together well through the voice acting and the emotion showed through the cartoon characters. Through just the voice alone you can depict the emotion being expressed. This element causes you to also have emotion about it. You can see how the actress expresses her emotion clearly through her voice in the scene in the forest. Here Alice starts crying and shows through her voice that she is regretful she didn’t listen to herself. “I give myself very good advice... but I very seldom follow it. That explains the trouble that I’m always in. Be patient is very good advice, but the waiting makes me curious.” (0.59.00) This is one element that makes the movie entertaining and through the emotion showed it also causes the watcher to have emotion about it. Frustration, loneness, and confusion are some emotions Alice feels during her adventure in Wonderland.
Another element that makes any movie good is the plot this also causes the movie to be entertaining. Most good movies have interesting plots that not have been done before. A good plot makes a good story. The plot in this story is very entertaining and causes you also to think about this world Alice enters. She is bored with her studies and starts to daydream when she then sees the white rabbit making her curious to follow him. The world she enters is very topsy turvy and doesn’t make sense to her. While she day dreams she imagines a world like this. “Alice: That’s it, Dinah! If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrariwise, what it is, it wouldn’t be, and what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?” (0.07.34) Here she meets all weird characters, and the queen, being upset, chases her and frustrated with this world she tries to get home but then realizes that she is home, she is just asleep. Other movies have used the aspect of this movie where she falls asleep then realizes it’s a dream but what makes this story special is the crazy adventures she has in Wonderland. This world is like no others in any movies. Wonderland is full illogical things that make this plot interesting and make the movie entertaining.
Another thing that makes this movie worth watching is the theme and this cause you to think and feel while your watching the movie. Have you ever wished you could create your own world? Relating to this movie is easy because most people have thought of crazy worlds of their own. It may not be real life but it is very entertaining and that is one of the reasons this movie is captivating. You know it couldn’t happen… but yet you let your mind wonder and ask yourself ‘what if?’ In this story the main idea is that our ideas for other worlds are sometimes not logical. Alice wanted a world with no logic and that didn’t make sense but was unique. In the movie she admits that making this experience into a story would be a good idea. New worlds are good fantasy and sci-fi. But sometimes our ideas are not logical for the real world.
“There’d be new birds, lots of nice and friendly how-de-do birds, everyone would have a dozen bluebirds, within that world of my own. I could listen to a babbling brook and here a song, that I could understand. I keep wishing it could be that way, because my world would be a wonderland.” (0.08.44) Her ideas do make for an entertaining story but aren’t logical in the world and I think that’s one thing that makes this story entertaining because it’s a step outside our world to experience something we haven’t before.
One of the most interesting things about Alice in Wonderland is the characters this element causes you to be entertained and to think and feel this is another think that’s makes the movie worth watching. They are most of the reason I love this movie. Flowers that sing, a stuck up caterpillar, a disappearing Cheshire cat, a bad tempered queen, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, a hungry walrus, a rabbit in a hurry, a mad hatter, and a march hare, these are just a few of the crazy characters in this movie. The characters in this story are interesting and entertaining. Most the characters are animals so they are interesting. The world she enters is entertaining that every character keeps you guessing. The white rabbit is also very interesting because you never know what he is doing or where he is going. Alice follows the white rabbit the whole time, “White Rabbit: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, I’m overdue. I’m really in a stew. No time to say goodbye, hello! I’m late, I’m late, I’m late!” (0.10.00) this shows the mystery of what he is up too and causes Alice to be curious. This curiosity is what causes this story or a upside down world.
This movie is one of my favorites and it has a lot of key elements that make a movie good. Good voice acting, original plot, relatable theme, and entertaining characters make this movie entertaining and causes the movie watcher to think about this crazy world and feel the things Alice is feeling. This causes the movie to be worth watching. Wonderland is a world full of confusion, mystery, madness, and wacky creatures which causes this movie to be a whole new experience for your mind. Now go on your way to watch the movie, and don’t be late!
