What's the best way to make money writing? Is self-publishing a book expensive?
I mean, unless you are one of the few writers who gets a selected by a publishing company or hired by a publication (such as a magazine), how can you make money writing?

Getting yourself out there, I wager - taking risks. I've heard that publishing ebooks or whatever aren't the best way to go - same with self publishing. Both are possible, don't get me wrong and I'm sure there are authors who have had great success (for example Christopher Paolini). I think if I were to get published - I hope I one day do - I would go the company publishing route, and yet I don't know. There are plenty of websites and books that suggest information on this topic:
http://www.wikihow.com/Create-and-Publi ... a-Teenager
for example.
On terms of money, I really have no idea. I've heard that self-publishing takes a lot of money, but don't quote me on that.
Personally I wouldn't publish for the money. My passion is too great for such a thing as fleeting money. Still, it's a profession - and it's not like writing novels is the only form of professional writing - newspapers, magazines, editors, publishers, journals, research, business -- there are so many occupations that require good writing.

- I write articles and web content for websites. It is not difficult to get a job like that (if you can write) and there is a lot of work out there. It does not pay very well though, but should be enough to keep you going.
- Then, you could make a blog. If you can write well enough to build up a reputation or get regular visitors, or write about stuff that people actually search for on the internet, you can make money from your blog. How?
- You can add Google Adsense to your blog.
You can sell ebooks on your blog. (more writing)
You can write reviews. (write a little more). Sign up with a company that pays per post. You write a little 300 word review on some site/company/product and get paid for that.
- Also, you can become a copywriter for a large company. Maybe a little boring. But all companies need written things, publications, press releases, etc. Large companies usually hire a copywriter for this.

You can make money by writing articles for blogs, forums etc. You don't get paid much here but you can just manage something for yourself.

If you have plenty of time then writing a book is still the best money to be had but it needs to be a seller, blogs are becoming a new choice for writer income and if you are good at it and put in the time there is good money to be made

You can make money in writing, well I would say we are in the world wide web so blog will be the best answer for it. Articles are best in blogs, like new thing news for example ideas that you have and wanted to share will be great as long as it catches the readers eye.

I'm going to be honest, it's going to be really really hard to make money writing at first. If you try hard enough, you can definitely make a living doing it, but in my experience it's better to write for reputation/recognition and less for money. Although, if you get to be well known enough, the money will come along. So promote promote promote!

I got a friend who writes content for the internet and he's earning that much. The fact that he can pay his bills and loans a house is good news.

There are tons of ways. Self-publish your book, blog for money, freelance articles, etc. Writing is the content, now you need to find the medium through which you want it to flow.

I've always worried about making money with writing. I love to write, but I always joke that I'll be poor when I get older...except it's kind of true. I think I might try writing a blog. It seems like a good way to keep up with writing every day, and if enough people are interested it could...maybe...lead to something better.
Plus, I thought that if I started a blog and got a loyal fanbase, and then published a book, all those people would already be interested in my work, and so it'd increase my chances of selling tons of books and becoming the next J.K. Rowling. *Shrugs sheepishly* I have high expectations.
So those are my ideas, if that helps at all

There are many, first decide in what kind of writing you are interested more. You may write for web pages, blog, article, commenting, communities etc. Essay writing is also a hot hob. Just explore the opportunities there are many.

Well, basically there are 2 approaches. One is to write your own article and then publish it on a website or blog and then earn from advertising revenues. Another straightforward method is by using article publishing sites like Triond which actually pays you to put your article there and then earn by means of your article popularity.
