Live and learn. I have published via Amazon my first novel in ebook format and in paperback. Despite Amazon´s editorial suggestions and my husbands scanning it for mistakes it was published with many grammatical issues. Now my Mother, who worked as a copyright soecialist for songwriter´s in Nashville is taking over and we will reissue the revised edition soon. While the tedious details are being addressed I am busy starting a sequel. :techie-typing:

Thank you for this helpful article. Just an FYI - Spell Check - I think you mean "boulder" in the following sentences...
your promotion efforts need to be the analogue of giving a bolder at the top of a steep hill a strong nudge. Even if your book is not totally awful, you will still be futilely trying to roll a big bolder up a steep ice-hill :techie-studyinggray:

These tips are already widely known, but I guess they were good back in 2011.
Thanks for the thread though!

1 comment: Starting a launch team is also a great idea to generate publicity. They can help you build interviews and such.

And 2 a question: The rules state that readers can't have projects reviewed, right? Or has the rule changed or something?

I have another suggestion. You could also start a blog long before you publish your book to get a small following and some interest in it.

On Amzon, giving the book for totally free for some period or at a reduced price is also a good way to promote the book. During that time some who would not spend money on a book will buy it and you will get free advertising via them, if your book is good
We all need people who will give us feedback. That’s how we improve.

This is all such helpful advice. I'm not anywhere near ready to self-publish, but the goal is to be there within a year.

Shouldn't it be, "Advertise only the good and partially good reviews"? Advertising the very bad ones might be counter-productive, or don't you think so?

Thank you for an informative article. I am currently working on a book to self-publish, and I would love to have it reviewed by the Online Book Club members one day.

I was charged 40$ for posting a book at Amazon. I earned 10$ by selling so result is -30$ :(

it is important for people to know that in order to promote a self published book, one must spend a lot of time coming up with unique marketing strategies, this can be half the work!
