[Following is a volunteer review of "Rowan Wood Legends" by Olivia Wildenstein.]

[rbc=4]id348525-125[/rbc]A girl and two boys, doesn’t every wonderful story always start off that way? What if we threw in fairies, hunters, unseelies, deenalies, and a feud going as far back as 200 years? In Rowan Wood Legends two men vie for Cats attention, who found out that she is a part fairy and part hunter, each one wanting her to pick a side to be on. Cat already is dealing with the loss of her mother and her friend, picking a side is the furthest thing on her mind, although she is unconsciously already leaning towards one. With powers developing within her that not only seems to place her on a side that she doesn’t want she has to deal with finding a book that her great grandmother gave her that holds the secrets of the fairies and portal locations to their home in Baseetogan. With so much going on can Cat get her powers under control and figure out her own feelings between Kajika and Ace Wood.

When I opened the book Rowan Wood Legends by Olivia Windstream I was both surprised and really angry to find that the book I was reviewing was not a standalone novel but a series…and I was in the second book. This is my greatest pet peeve, I wish somewhere in the description it had mentioned this. Even on Amazon, the description is the same, no indication at all. I felt tricked for had I known I would not have read it. That aside I do have to admit this was a really great book. I finished it within a day, I then went back and read the first one Rose Petal Graves (The Lost Clan book 1) to better understand the one I had read. This is a “must do” in order to understand this book, because it literally picks up right after the first one ends. It’s a key element to read prior to this one, for if you don’t you will be as confused and lost as I had been.

What I loved about Rowan Wood Legends was how the author took Native American ideas and mashed it together with faeries. How she brought the hunters into discovering what they truly were, how the story flowed and transitioned from chapter to chapter. It was very well written and there is nothing about the story I disliked at all.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars, which is a real shame because I so want to give it the 4 out of 4 it deserves. However, due to the fact, the book was the second one in the series and had given no indication it was such, and for me, that is my major pet peeve when it comes to reading, I had to sadly deduct a star from this epic story. I recommend this novel to lovers of the show Vampire Diaries, the love triangle in this story is just as equally enthralling as the one in the series. Also, even though this book has been labeled a YA novel there are some pretty graphic “adult” scenes, I highly suggest the author change the genre to Paranormal Romance, especially so, since in the 3rd book Rising Silver Mist things really get sexual.
