Katrina Bills’ Prayed Up is a heartfelt offering of prayer and reflection.

For every occasion and worry, there is a prayer. For those who believe in God and have faith that He is in control, prayer is the foremost means of communication. It is a way to show thankfulness, to ask for help, and to show faithfulness. Prayed Up is a companion book with prompts for prayer and reflection. Covering Healing, Encouragement, Grace, Love, and Hope topics, this book will provoke you to pray and reflect on those prayers.

The layout of this book is excellent. Each page begins with a verse, a devotional prayer, and a blank space for reflection on the provided information. Each prayer is short and simple. The language is easy to read and is conversational. The blurb on the back claims that the book is “designed to uplift and guide you through every facet of life”. Because of that claim, I anticipated the devotional prayers to apply to specific situations. The prayers were a bit more generic. They focused more on the positive aspects of life, rather than the struggles. Because of that, I found that it didn’t quite live up to the “every facet of life” claim.

The last section of the book was my favorite. There are four detailed sections focused on the topics of Healing, Encouragement, Grace, Love, and Hope. In each of these, there was a more in-depth explanation for what the topic means, a list of verses on the topic, and a longer, more focused prayer. If the whole book had been written in this format, covering a wide range of topics, I feel that this would have been truer to the summary on the back of the book and what appears to be the book’s intentions. It would also be beneficial if the versions of the Bible were added to each quote, so that it was clearly documented where the quotes were obtained from.

I would give this book 3 out of 5 stars. The intention is there, and the final section of the book has fantastic guided prayer and information. However, the first section is abbreviated and the guided prayers felt a bit impersonal.
