High Clowder Cats by Ruby Knight is a book that shares the tales of catkind, the ancestry of High Clowder, and how one unique colored cat, who wasn't born of them, came to be their leader. The leadership foundation of this group was strong, excellent, and reliable. It conveyed the message that empathy, equity, and justice would always stand out everywhere, not just in catkind.

This book tells the story of Bushytail, a lone cat who wandered about living a wild, carefree life. He was nonchalant and just lived for survival, but he felt empty and incomplete. Like every other cat, Bushytail wanted to have a family. He yearned for companionship, belonging, and purpose, but this was not coming forth, and life was not going as easy as he thought it to be. He gradually came to a decision that could either bring to light his needs or push them further away. This book portrays the overall growth of Bushytail and how far he came in the achievement of his goals and the fulfillment of his needs.

On the positive aspects of this book, I took great pleasure in the way the author captured the themes of faith and hope using Bristle, who made the powerful stone known to the required people, guided them, and was always there to help renew their trust and belief in the revelations from the stone. The themes of love, perfect unison, and equity were not left untold. The author used Bushytail and his style of leadership to justify these themes. He knew his purpose was to save and restore the glory of the Clowder. He always stood for justice, did the right thing, and was a ruler filled with examples worthy of emulation. I loved how the author captured the theme of friendship, support, and companionship through the characters of Stealth, Barrel, Sleek, Stretch, and other of Bushytail's friends who also made up the Clowder's council. Also, the author beautifully captured the theme of rebellion, envy, and hatred through Brokenear, who tortured and maimed some of the cats in order to take away the pride and reputation of Bushytail and was constantly at war with him and the members of High Clowder till his last breath. This book was written in simple diction.

There's nothing I could consider to be one of the negative aspects of this book. This book was exceptionally well edited; I did not find any grammatical errors in it. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars because it was well written, and I found nothing to dislike about it.

I recommend this book to young adults and teenagers, especially those who love animal fantasy. This book was enjoyable to read.

I love that these cats are named after their qualities. I have a cat myself. This book sounds so interesting as an animal fantasy. Thanks for your review.

This story is quite unique considering that the characters are cats. Bushytail's personal growth, taking advantage of Bristle's guidance, and the growth of High Clowder as a feline society, also passing through hardships, offer food for thought. Thank you for your great review!

Thank you for this heartfelt review. I read High Clowder Cats some time ago, and your words brought back everything I loved about it. You beautifully captured Bushytail’s transformation from a lonely wanderer to a wise and just leader.
I especially appreciated how you touched on the deeper themes of hope, justice, and belonging through characters like Bristle, Stealth, and Brokenear.

The author of “Higher Clowder Cats” penned a animal story with the intertwined characters of humans, Ruby Knight extended her imagination of the cat characteristics freedom, and roaming into a confined environment of human and group activities. The review was thorough and created an interest to read further.

I’m in mind of the best selling Watership Down’, and having read the first few pages it certainly has the same feel. Just like the reviewer, I’d give this book full marks….

"High Clowder Cats" sounds like an epic and intense read! Bushytail looks so cute on the cover. From the review, I see that Bushytail overcomes a lot and builds his legacy amidst many challenges. This is a book I would recommend to teens who want to read about adventure and discover the secret lives of cats.

What a lovely animal fantasy that at the same time showcases what often happens in the lives of human beings--what's most amazing, for me, is to see how this story unfolds and how I can relate to the happenings in it.

Even though I haven't read the book yet, your summary gave a really strong sense of its emotional impact and rich themes. I am particularly drawn to how the story incorporates concepts of justice, belonging, and purpose into Bushytail's journey. Your descriptions of his friendships and challenges strongly convey that this is more than just a simple animal fantasy—there's a richly human element to it at its core. I am definitely interested and will be adding it to my reading list.

While I have not read this book series, after I read the sample today and this review, I am quite intrigued. Most books that I read are fiction and fantasy, so High Clowder Cats by Ruby Knight fits right in. The reviewer did a great job pointing out their likes about this book and summarizing the key points about the catkind found within the pages. Great review!
