The Fault In Our Stars - John Green REVIEW

Post by matidoodle »

To quote my mother (who has not read the book) : What do you expect? Nothing good can come of a story that begins in a cancer ward.

No, it’s not quite a cancer ward, but the statement holds true. When you go into a book, fully knowing that the main character has terminal cancer, what do you think is going to happen? Tears. The answer is tears.

I have given John Green a chance before, and I wasn’t all that impressed. But, seeing as The Fault In Our Stars is everywhere, why not give it a go? While reading I often thought to myself, “Wow. For 16/17 these kids sure are eloquent. Why can’t I talk like that? Why don’t words come that easily and quickly to me?” And then it hit me… NO ONE TALKS LIKE THAT! It simply doesn’t happen, No one can be that clever off the cuff. Once I realized this, the way they spoke came to bother me.

Overall, yeah, it kept you reading. Yes, I do admit to crying excessively. That’s just the nature of this kind of story. It’s supposed to be sad, heartbreaking even. It was a decent read, but I don’t see what all the hype is about.
