(Unofficial review of Turned by Morgan Rice. Book one of The Vampire Journals)

Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal Romance
First published/Release Date: Jan. 24th, 2011
Pages: 150

Forced to move to another new city with her mother and little brother, Caitlin Paine is feeling lost and alone. When her one saving grace, a fellow student at a dangerous New York City high school, Jonah, is beaten on his walk home from school, Caitlin realizes there may be more to herself than she knows. With her sudden physical changes, superhuman strength and an overwhelming need to feed, Caitlin finds herself in more trouble than she could ever know.

I personally found this book to be rather tedious and shallow. While Turned is certainly an inventive book and does have an interesting overall plot, I would only rate it 1/4 stars and recommend this book only for someone looking for a quick and simple read.

This book was, in short, very simple and poorly structured. With a halfheartedly written main character and virtually no character development for any of the characters, this book left much to be desired. With prevalent continuity issues, it is difficult to understand how certain events come to happen, and paired with how rushed the plot (and other aspects of the spoiler persuasion come about) seems it is difficult to discern what direction the author meant to be taking. It was hard to imagine certain aspects of the book. For instance, many scenes were described inadequately and some ideas were just truly difficult to understand like how Caitlin could possibly have not realized that her new found abilities were even remotely abnormal.

I don't hesitate to say that I am obsessed with vampire books. These are my passion. However, I don't believe that I will be returning to this author or series.
