Fate’s Exchange is a book about a young high school girl named Alyssa Frank. Alyssa is a perfect student and a perfect friend. She ends up coming face to face with death and ends up losing the fight. However, she finds out that second chances do exist. There is something special about her that makes fate want her to live. She is given the chance to redo the choices she made so she can pick the right path and do the right things. Even if that involves hurting the ones she loves old and new.
The genres that this book falls under is young adult, fantasy, and romance. It was published August 21 2014. The theme of this book for me was not very clear. In the story Alyssa was told to stop making choices to help others and to make choices that help herself instead. So in a way she was being told to be selfish or she would die. In the end however the choices she makes are not to help herself so I was pretty confused about that.
When I first started reading this book I was very confused about what was happening and the concept of it. I honestly thought about not even finishing it. However, once I got to about the fourth and fifth chapter I started to understand and the story became a lot more interesting and pulled me in. I did end up liking the book but I do not feel a very strong need to read the next books in the series. It never ends up telling you the reason why Alyssa was given a second chance to live, which I am guessing is the reason why she wrote a second book. To me, the story is dragged on and the beginning is very slow moving. I even feel like some of the events in the story really do not need to even happen, it was just a way to make the story longer. That really turned me off.
I have never really read a book with these types of characters in it such as fate and angels. After reading this book it has turned me away from reading other books with those types of characters. It all seemed too farfetched for me to really get into. Saying that however, during the second part of the book the characters become very relatable and you really start to care for what happens to Alyssa. It becomes very emotional and I found myself sad and happy for her. So that is done very well in the book.
This book is a good book but I think that the beginning really needs work. It has a lot of potential and could be much better if the beginning was changed. I do not think I would really recommend this book to read even though it was not horrible. I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars.
