The fault in our stars by john green

I was late getting on board with this book. I had said I wanted to read it for awhile but I kept putting it off. When the movie came out I knew there would be loads of spoilers so I decided to bite the bullet and go ahead and download it. I started it about 9 pm that night and stayed up until after midnight to finish it. I almost never finish an entire book this quickly simply because I have other things that I need to do but this book was so heartbreakingly amazing I kid you not when I say that I didn't put it down from the moment I started. This book focuses around the story of Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters. And what a beautiful story it is.

From chapter one I was hooked on every word. I liked that even despite her illness Hazel Grace was extremely relatable. I mean, I totally get wanting to marathon your favorite TV show versus going to do something that you really don't want to do but doing it anyway because it will make someone you love happy. Hazel is basically your average teen, or at least she's like most of the ones I've met (including myself) except she has to cope with "lungs that suck at being lungs".

The other main character is the ever swoon-worthy Augustus Waters. If I could meet a real guy like Gus I would marry him in an instant. Augustus Waters is a perfect example of why girls' standards are so high. We fall in love with guys like him and the real guys just can't compete! But seriously, the only word I can use to describe this boy is perfect.

Their love story is one of the greatest that I have ever read. Think Romeo and Juliet meets The Notebook! I feel I must warn you that while this is an adorable bubbly romance that will make you laugh and grin at the ridiculous amount of cuteness, it WILL also make you cry. I don't want to give away too much, but I had never gotten truly emotional over a book before this one and I sobbed. I told my mom I was okay but I was not. This tragic story will leave you emotionally wrecked. However, I still recommend it with my whole heart. The emotional pain is intense. That's the thing about pain, it demands to be felt. But it is temporary, and the story is worth it.

As a final note I will address the misconception that this is a cancer book. It is not a cancer book. It is a tragic love story about two beautiful people who happen to have cancer. Perhaps that is another reason I love it so much. It shows that behind the many medical stories we hear and read about, there are actual people with actual lives filled with love, joy, sorrow, etc.

In conclusion, I give this book 5 stars. It's beautiful, it's tragic, it's amazing, and while it will make you cry, you won't regret reading it. Okay? Okay.

(P.S. The movie really does it justice as well. I didn't even mention the character of Isaac who is another amazing character that you will fall in love with!)
