In real life a pixilated world - Joey Graceffa

Post by lozzareviews »

I had never taken much interest in watching Joey on Youtube so I was surprised when I read the blurb to his book and felt the urge to read it. It's a story that I felt really reflects life, Joey is placed in special education, gets teased for acting feminine, alcoholic parent, accepts his sexuality and goes on a few awkward relatable first dates.

This book really opened up my eyes toward youtubers, they aren't some huge celebrity that are nothing like us. In fact Joey was really relatable toward me in ways I never imagined he would be, I feel a lot of people would be able to relate toward him whether it be because of his relationship with his mother. His feminine ways, his education, some of the toxic friendships or maybe just because of the way he can speak to you like your old friends.

One thing I really liked about 'in real life' was the helpful advice boxes at the end of each chapter such as- how to deal with bullies, dealing with roommates, favourite breakup songs, cool websites. It's the sort of thing I love to find in books and just made it that extra enjoyable.

"You have the power and control to be whatever you want to be, no matter where you start in life" -Joey Graceffa.

I really enjoyed this book - although I might be a little biased because I watch Joey on a regular basis, but I thought he really put his entire life into it, which shows quite a lot of character. I thought it was raw, and different from a lot of other books that youtuber's have written because he visited topics that he had never talked about before. Overall, I thought it was a wonderful book and would recommend it to anyone that would like an uplifting read.
