I literally got this book free for free from a library for doing a program, and it was great! I connected to it and read it all in one sitting! It was funny but still serious; it really makes you think about mental illness.

I absolutely loved this book. It was fascinating and sad and beautiful and genuine all at the same time, and I found it very inspiring.

This story is very close to my heart. I was given the book when I was also struggling with a very deep depression as a teenager. I enjoyed the writing as it was not arrogant or flippant. It was very serious material but Ned Vizzini (brilliantly might I add) contributed such a sense of humor to an otherwise extremely heavy novel. I still am so sad that he is no longer with us, but this will be a book I treasure for a very long time.

It's "kind of" a great book.

Craig Gilner is a 15 year old boy who, like many teenagers his age, is very stressed out. Not about just his new prestigious school, Manhattan's Executive Pre-Professional High School, but everything about life in general. The pressure gets so out of hand that Craig contemplates suicide.

Craig's fall out leads him to a mental hospital where he meets an unusually eccentric crowd, like Jimmy, who never has a real conversation with you, only saying stuff like "How sweet it is!" and "It'll come to ya!" and the girl who has scarred her face with a pair of scissors. Here, Craig figures out the origins of his problems.

I'm sure that anyone who has ever had depression, even the slightest bit, can relate to this story so well.

This is one of those rare books that you come across, and when you're finished, it sorta opens your eyes and changes the way you see the world.

"It's Kind of a Funny Story" is definitely a book everyone should pick up
