"The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian"

Post by CCtheBrave »

"The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian," by Sherman Alexie is a witty, short read in the young adult fiction category. Through the voice of the main character, a Native American youth named Junior, Alexie uses humor and wit to bring to light issues of racism, poverty, and identity. The story follows Junior through his first year of high school as he struggles to maintain his sense of identity and fumbles his way through teenage life off of the reservation. Overall, this book is a hilarious read that will make you think about, and question, issues of discrimination, poverty, and identity.

The fact that this book was banned some places, makes me want to read it.

I had completely forgotten that this book was banned! I was looking it up after I read your post and I think it's ridiculous that the book was banned based off of passages that were taken out of context.

Sherman Alexie actually parked himself outside of some of the schools that banned this book and gave copies away to the students. The man's a BAMF.

I read it a couple of years ago, and I loved it! I didn't know it was banned though.
