Flygirl

Post by torilane »

This is historical fiction for young adults. It tells the story of a girl growing up circa World War II who is African American, but can "pass" for white. She uses this to obtain a pilot's license and enlist in the army as a pilot (before there was an Air Force). There is a fair amount of history that is actually very interesting, and this is actually inspired by a true story of a female army pilot. This is an interesting read for the high school age group, telling about social elements of the time period that aren't discussed much, especially in high school.
