Funny Stories for Kids: The Big Fat Mermaid by Dweezel and Pallie is a retold story of The Little Mermaid with very hilarious twists. Aria is a fat mermaid princess who indulges in food and would love nothing more than to try dry, delicious human food. However, her dad, Poseidon, wants her to "shed some pounds". So, of course, she goes to the sea witch who turns her into a human. On land she is very happy and gets to live out her fantasy.

I gave this book a 3 out of 4 because it was like The Little Mermaid, yet different enough to keep your attention. It was nice to read about a princess who didn't have a perfect body and embraced it. Aria also got a prince who liked her being fat. There were people who didn't like Aria but she remained confident. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is because I didn't enjoy it that much, but that doesn't mean other people won't.

Dweezel and Pallie did a great job at weaving the story with humor. It was funny how Aria was worried about food at the most inopportune times. They did an awesome job at showing Aria's personality through their writing. Aria's weight was also described alot, making me wonder how much she was really suppose to weigh. Another thing I liked was how different movies were referenced a couple times. It was although they were just making sure the reader was paying attention.

There were a couple of things I didn't like. One was that when the authors had something to say, they put an astrix by it, then put their statement in parenthesis under the paragraph it was in. I think they should have put it at the bottom of the page instead of the middle. The other thing I wasn't a fan of was the over-the-top farting and burping on Aria's behalf. Of course this is a little kids book, so they would probably find it funny.

So overall, this was a good book. It would most likely be an ideal bedtime story, as it is for little kids. They would love Aria and all her bad manners. I personally loved the ending, which was hilarious. I think other people would like it, too. I recommend this book for families with little kids, and especially a love for Disney movies.

I think it's cute :) I like the idea that not all princesses are slim and that fat girls can also find someone who would love them despite their weight. Congratulations to Dweezel and Pallie for such a wonderful book!

Nice review, Supcoolfofa. Some time ago I reviewed the other book by the same authors. I utterly enjoyed it. I don't think we need to take dweezel_and_pallie's books entirely as children's books. These very talented authors are rewriting children's books to take them up another level, which is supposed to be more for adults than for very young children. That is the mane reason why I love their books.
