Review: Trial By Fire by Josphine Angelini *Spoilers*

The main character, Lily, isn’t some super, beautiful, ninja woman. In fact, she is almost an invalid in her own world. She doesn’t have many friends, her family is dysfunctional and although she isn’t described as ugly, she doesn’t turn heads either. When things couldn’t get much worse in her own world, she wished to disappear and is magically transported to another dimension where magic exists and is ruled by powerful woman Crucibles. And she is one of the most powerful beings if she can only learn to harness it and not lose control, then she could save thousands from her alternate self, Lillian.

I really enjoyed reading this novel. It was difficult to put down because of the action packed storyline. I also liked the fact that the main character isn’t perfect. She has power but doesn’t know how to use it. She can’t physically fight herself, but can transfer energy and the novel talks a lot about science. Although, I was never a science person it almost made science sound fun and interesting hopefully urging teenage girls into a science field later in life.

The main flaw with this novel is the ending. I absolutely hate when books cut off the ending. Spoiler Alert: Lily is fading in and out of consciousness after a major battle that we aren’t exactly sure is over and then the end. Nothing was resolved. It just left me with more questions about why things are happening.
