"We Were Liars" by E. Lockhart is a book based on an island off the coast of Massachusetts. The main character, Cadence, lives in Burlington, Vermont during the span of her school year, but comes to Beechwood Island during her summer break where she spends two months with her grandparents and relatives from her mother's side. The Island is owned by Cadence's family, and they spend their summers there isolated from others, which adds to the family drama and the way that they are immersed in their own wealth. There are four houses on the island, each one belonging to a part of Cadence's extended family. Windemere, Cuddledown, Red Gate, and Clairmont are the names of the houses in which the Sinclairs (Cadence's last name) live. One summer at Beechwood an accident occurs. Cadence spends most of her time in Cuddledown with the Liars after the accident.
