Review: Darkness Become Her by Kelly Keaton

Post by Rvt4life2015 »

Darkness Becomes Her is about the female protagonist Ari, full name Aristanae Selkirk, who was supposedly abandoned by her mother whom she has no real memories of and is moved from foster home to foster home. The book opens with Ari in a mental hospital located in the backwater swamps of Louisiana. This is where her adventure begins and learns that every female in her family committed suicide at the age of 21 and left behind a little baby girl, this is due to a curse put on her lineage by a petty and vengeful Greek god. Ari makes friends along the way who are also like her....different and gifted with powers unique to their ancestral lineage. At the end of the book, Ari finds out why every female ancestor before committed suicide and claims revenge on the god that cursed her and her ancestors.

Darkness Becomes Her was a good read and I personally enjoyed it because of the setting, the story takes place in New Orleans, which is the prime place for everything supernatural and eclectic. There was a bit of action at the beginning of the story and at the ending, more romance and character development in the middle and that made it a little hard to read because it eventually had to explain a few things such as the nine families who ruled over New Orleans after the hurricanes and Ari having to track down how her curse started. Other than that, this book was, for me, a page turner and I'd give it a 4 out of 5 stars due to the slowness and explaining in the middle; which really did help the story plot altogether but it was quite a bit to read.
