The bonding with friends and family, connecting with nature, and overall benefits of being outdoors is what makes camping great. It sounds like this book capitalises on all aspects of the activity!

Welcome to Shadow Creek by Don Williams is a #ThoughtProvoking #ComingOfAge tale for #YoungAdults. It follows Lib's camping experience with his father, brother, and the Burr twins, Foy and Coy.

As a young person growing up, I found life in always being indoor seeing it as best to isolate myself.
Though it has its advantages, one could be myopic about the realities of life and what to gain when exposed to the real world.
Lib Rinke would and might never have found some hidden joy which he has never experienced if he was adamant in not exploring life outside and in the adventure. :)

A boy who detests outdoor activities goes on a camping trip with his father and falls in love with the adventure and gains self confidence. Not my genre but thanks for the review.

Awesome review, as always! I used to camp with my son when he was little, so I understand the draw, except, of course, for the constant bugs. I enjoy YA novels coming-of-age with a fantasy/sci-fi theme, but obviously, this book is miles away from that genre. Given that, I think I'll have to give it a pass. It just doesn't fit in well with my interests.

I don't like camping either but this seems to be a wonderful book about a boy's coming of age. I will give this one a read just so I can better understand challenges young men face and male bonding. Great review.

The storyline is interesting. The story of a teenager coming out of his shell is always fascinating to me. I would like to be a part of his journey through this read. Good review. Congrats on BOTD!

This sounds like it could be a good read. I can remember camping trips when I was younger and I absolutely loved them. But, I could not imagine going to camp and being shy or not really fitting in.

I have enjoyed reading the sample and I will agree with this review. A story within a story no doubt is a brilliant approach to this great story. Though the second tale is a letdown nevertheless the primary story is very intriguing and I really enjoyed the author's descriptive writing style. I could actually pick up the smell of stale food, and sweat that comes with a long road trip that is a wonderful touch to the story. It really did bring back some good memories for me and I will definitely be reading this one. Thanks to the author for a very well written and informative review.

I like that there is a lot of character development which takes place and that the main character is very descriptive. This makes the reading experience more realistic.

In “Welcome to Shadow Creek”, the author, Don Williams, is very detailed in his descriptions of the various landscapes the boys pass on their way to their fishing expedition. He also describes both the appearance of each boy in great detail, as well as their personalities. Lib is the serious 15-year old who doesn’t seem impressed with the sights and sounds, much less the other 3 boys excited expressions related to the ball game. He would rather read a book. He isn’t terribly excited about fishing either, but looks forward to spending time with his father.
The author’s transition from topic to detailed topic is not as smooth as it could be, but perfect for his intended audience. Each detailed description paints a clear picture of the topic, be it the description of the landscape clutter around the grounds as they enter the ranch, or the boys reaction to their team being “3”up, then losing their advantage. The story is very age appropriate.

Indeed this is an outdoorsy kind of book. To be honest, I'm more intrigued by the where or from whom inspired the story and by what the book portrays. Thanks for the detailed review.

Thank you for all the work you put into the review.

Like yourself I found the detailed discriptions stunning though they can carry on a tad to long.

I think I would agree with you that it captures your exact feelings as a camper, places them in a story form and then feeds them back to you. I would never have imagened such a thing was possible, and if I would have I am not sure I would have voted for it.

For me the best way to go camping is reading about it. Don Williams' description makes the story come alive and the reader feels like they are part of the action. I'll definitely be adding this book to my reading list for the benefit of my niece and nephew. Thank you for a great review.
