For me, the most memorable part of The Giver is when Jonas tries to ask his father whether he was loved and the father being unnerved by the question and lecturing him on precision of language. It made me realize for the first time just how mechanical and unfeeling the whole society has become as the price paid for the life they have.

There really is so much to discuss about this book! Something that stuck with me was the way Jonas slowly restored his ability to see color. What an interesting way for Lois Lowry to demonstrate revealing a part of life that you aren’t even aware of. The way memories were shared physically and as an entire experience as opposed to story telling was something that really fascinated me. I’ve always wanted to be able to actually view life from others perspectives.
