Re: House of night

I was hooked by the first book of the first series. I was first, not sure I was going to like it at all but because it was a new type of Vampire book, I figure, what the heck, and began reading it. I loved it and couldn't stop reading it till I got the others that were out at the time from the library. Though Betrayed was a hard book for me to finish as, with the first book, I got attached to Neferet so her betrayal was hard to take but I eventually got through it and to the last book till Tempted came out. When Awakened came out, I finished it in one days time! Started at about 10 am and didn't finish till about 9 pm. A first for me! Now, I have to catch up with the series starting at Destined and going from there. But I love this series very much and I love Zoe and Stevie Rae very much! I can't wait to continue the series and find out all that happens next!

It's great that you've enjoyed them but in my opinion there are many more paranormal books that are 100 x better.
interesting, i would like to read your reviews

I do love this series! I keep reading every new one as it comes out. The one thing that mars it for me is Zoey's boy-crazy attitude. When I was her age I was just as upset with teenage girls acting that way. It's like the worst stereotype of a teenage girl come to life in print. "i like him, but I like him too, but he's really hot, but he's hotter, hmmm I just can't decide". Everything else about her leads me to see a smart, strong, intelligent, compassionate person. Aside from where the attitude offends me, it just really doesn't fit with the rest of her character.

This series has captivated my attention completely. I love how vampires aren't traditionally made as you read in other books. They are chosen and have special powers on top of being vampires. I love the plot and the characters. My favorite part is the love interests of Zoey, she goes from a teacher to rebellious outcast.

The House of Night Series was really good at first. I couldn’t wait for the next book to come out. The conflict brought the characters together and the reader could see them grow stronger together. The problem is that the main conflict never is resolved. The good guys never fully win in the series and I don’t like that as reference for teenagers to go by. To me this shows the audience that “evil” will be a step ahead of the good guys.

The authors P.C. Cast and her daughter Kristin Cast wrote the series well. Zoey Redbird’s character grew as her powers grew and she always tried to save the innocent. She was a fledgling vampire that had to go to a certain school for vampires after she was marked. She had to overcome the emotional consequences of having her life turned upside down. She makes new friends and new enemies each book.

What I liked most about the book series is how the authors kept the gang close and they always took care of one another. I however did not like the fact that the main conflict, Neferit, was never fully defeated but allowed time to gain more power each book. For instance, Zoey and her gang end up having to run and hide from her eventually. I like it better when the good guys win.

I give this series a rating of 2 out 4 stars. Overall this series is really good; I just could not stay interested in the series. The series is more for the teenage audience and they may not have the same opinion because I know some that still read the series and are very excited about it. I personally couldn’t keep interest.

Hi! I am new to this forum and didn't see a topic for this particular series yet so here it goes! I have read 10 out of the 12 main books in this series. The 12th book comes out this October. The series also has 5 novellas which delve deeper into character back stories for those who want a bit more. I personally LOVED this series as a great late-night read over a glass of wine. This series is easy to read yet has intricate plot turns. These books are great for light reading before bed. This series falls into the YA older teen vampire romance category. Anyone read these?! Thoughts on the series?!
List of books in the (HON) House of Night Series:
Marked, Betrayed, Chosen, Untamed, Hunted, Tempted, Burned, Awakened, Destined, Hidden, Revelealed, & Redeemed
The Novellas are: The Fledgling Handbook 101, Dragon's Oath, Lenobia's Vow, Neferet's Curse, & Kalona's Fall.

Cheers!

Hey there, there's actually a post for the House of Night series in the Sci-Fi and Fantasy Books section. The HON series is pretty awesome. I haven't read all the books, just those I could get my hands on during book sales. I think it's pretty cool how it starts out fairly simple with teenage high school issues and then evolves into some pretty big war. And then there's the evolution of their own kind like the Red Vampyres. So sad what happened to Professor Lankford and his wife.

Thanks! It looks like my post was re-routed into the existing section :)I was looking under YA but its under general fantasy (which, in my opinion. it should be due to some of its content!). :) I have had GREAT luck at Half Price Books and Thrift Stores at finding these books, in hardback, for very cheap (like $1-5 each!). The first few books I picked up for only $1 each! The last book in the series comes out this month to and it on Amazon for under $10 I think! :D I hope you get to read the rest of the series! I have read almost all of them but I think my favorite book is Burned because some of the imagery is good. Cheers!

The last book in the series "Redeemed" doesn't come out until October 14th, so you don't know if they defeat her fully or not yet! I personally like how the bad guy is stronger than them because they ARE teens and just growing into their powers. They have to find creative ways to keep her at bay and I love it. Looking forward to the last book. BTW in book 10 they do find a way to "subdue" her but the series has 12 books total and 5 novellas as well ;)

I was very much into HON for the first 6 or 7 books but after that I kind of got tired of waiting around for the next book. I lost interest. I think a series should be no longer than 6 or 7 books anything more than that is just too much.
I will eventually go back and finish the series just to say that I read them all but, I am in no rush.

I have read 10 our of the 12 and I see what you mean. I became lackadaisical because I was wondering how there could be 2 more books BUT because the last one in the series comes out in a few more days, I will be reading the lats two shortly anyway. I don't like all of Zoey's boy woes but other than that the series has bee very excellent!

I am a great fan of the supernatural and have read all of the HON books so far. This may make me sound like a fan of the series but unfortunately I'm not. The only reason I have read all the books so far is because I hate to leave before finding out how it ends. I found it very repetitive and was skipping parts until the subject changed because of this . I was also irritated by Z's constant p.m.s . I found it to be the typical ' why me ' , ' pitty me ' book . So very disappointed. :|

Not such a fan of this series. It has an interesting plot, at times, but there are grammatical and punctuation errors in nearly every book I've read! These are published novels and they have errors in them! I just can't respect a book that comes in hard copy but has such mistakes. I also think the plot can be trite and boring.

My cousin actually got me into this series. I have not read the last one yet but have read every other one in the series. I love this series! Although I do feel like they started to lose steam....Maybe it's just me but I thought the first few books were really good and then the closer you get to the end they kind of go downhill. The storyline just isn't as interesting and kind of seems dragged out.
