My how beautiful this book was in the short 200 pages or so that contained this story. I was shocked, going into this book thinking it would be good only to realize it was GREAT! To experience the feelings of snow again and the uniqueness of color that Lois Lowry exquisitely wrote about, almost drew me to tears. It was magnificent in every way and made me appreciate life to a new extent. It was as if I had become blind only to have my eyesight restored by submerging my mind into this dystopian world. I highly recommend everyone to read this!
If there’s a book you really want to read but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it. ~Toni Morrison

I had to read this book for English class and it always looked kind of different with some old man on the cover, to me for some reason. But, I really like this and I can't say I didn't see the ending coming, but still it was surprising in ways.. If that makes sense.

I couldn't appreciate the book in elementary when we were told to read it. But thinking back on it, it was an amazing book that showed the flaws of society. I didn't realize it was part of a series though. I am looking forward to the movie!

I read the Giver in middle school, and I barely remember it. Should I try to read it again?

This book is one of my favorites. It was so thought-provoking and emotional. I personally loved the ending because it showed to me how much one child can feel and how much compassion he can have for another human being.

I wouldn't recommend this for elementary-aged children as someone else has suggested. My eighth-grade students who are at about a fourth grade reading level found it too difficult to follow. The text level is a little too high, and the content might be too mature as well.

I just finished The Giver and thought it was great. It really got my mind going about how people in our society live. As we get older and begin to work we fall into a very scheduled routine, and there may be small surprises along the way but for the most part we live very monotonous lives.

This book also reaffirmed the idea that there are no accidents. The Giver may not have intentionally given Jonas the memories of a town so close by, but there was a reason he received those memories. Whether he received those memories to save Gabriel, or he went back to help his former society that is unknown. But I like to believe that Rosemary had been released and Jonas received the memories of the snow first because he was meant to do something great.

I loved this book. The Giver is short, sweet, and gives you a very memorable story in 200. It was thought-provoking and relatable. I never had the chance to read it at a younger age so I've had the chance to read it now and really enjoyed it. As a teacher, I think the concept and themes in the book would go over a 4th/5th graders head but would provide them with a good read nonetheless. This book can be an eyeopener to some and a reminder to others about the works of society and how things are the way they are for a reason. It's definitely always a recommended read.

I read the Giver twice; once in 8th grade and once a year ago once I heard the movie was going to be made. Despite the time lapse, my love for the book has not changed. The dystopian theme, the symbolism, and the lessons learned from this book will forever follow me into adulthood.

I absolutely loved reading this book!!! It was so well written and the concept was so griping to me. The Giver is definitely something that I will read many times.

The whole series that this is part of is very good, but this was definitely my favorite. It really shows societal problems very well!

I read the Giver for school a few years ago. I enjoyed it so much. I wanted to pick up the other books by Lowry. Also, I am looking forward to the seeing the movie to compare it to the book.

I remember having to read this in high school ten years ago. I loved it then and I love it now. It seems to be that the classics are coming back and becoming movies. I guess that's one way to get this generation back into some classic literature.
