Here's why I prefer Katniss over Tris in a nutshell. Katniss: Rebels because she is forced to. Tris: Her reasons for running away just seems purely selfish to me, whereas Katniss was chosen by the people to be their "Mockingjay", their symbol of freedom.

I loved Divergent, but it became clear through Allegiant and Insurgent that Tris was continuing to not learn from her mistakes. While I don't expect the heroine to stay the nice and innocent girl from the first installment, I do expect her to eventually stop lying to those she loves. Tris made the ultimate sacrifice in the end, but in an effort to make that sacrifice she trampled over the hearts and confidence of those in her life - all while being caught in the lies. One of my favorite aspects of YA novels is the community which develops around the main character. This could be a love interest, best friends, siblings, unlikely allies etc. In the Divergent series, Tris spends her time pushing this community away and denying the reader the chance to see her grow through these relationships.

I'm a little biased, though, because in general, I like the Hunger Games series better than the Divergent series, so I'm bound to gravitate toward the former's main character.
