Re: Twilight Series by Stephaine Meyer

Post by Glacier_sky868 »

I would like say first that I have been a fan of horror, science fiction, and fantasy my whole life. During high school when I read the twighlight series (before it really blew up) I was exited to read a popular series involving vampires (which were my current obsession). I really want to say I hate the books, but I did get sucked in enough to read the whole series.

I can see the appeal it holds to pre and teen girls. It's a story of romantic forbidden love, of a not so special girl who warrants the most intence love of two spectacular and seemingly perfect guys.

However beyond that there is nothing. The characters are some of the most pathetic and bland ones I have ever read about. Bella is a horrible Idol for woman, let alone young women. If I had a daughter I would fear her looking up to such a pathetic and weak character. Bella is in love with someone that could at any moment snap and kill her. He brings her around more characters that putbher life in danger. When he leaves she is so lost she can do nothing for herself and almost kills herself so she can hallucinate about him. That is not a healthy relationship!! This is not the ideal we should be teaching women!! It drives me absolutely crazy!

Aside from that the storyline alternates between incredibly bland and totally overdramatic. The movies were even note unbearable.

I have read, re-read, and re-re-read the twilight series. It's a shame so many people are turned away from the books because of the movies. Isn't it common knowledge that the books are always better than the movies?

Twilight is one of those works of fiction where, to understand it, you really have to think about its audience. The Brothers Karamazov wasn't written for casual readers, and Twilight wasn't written for the discerning mind.

Twilight was written, whether purposefully or not, as a fantasy, and not in the "fantasy genre" sense. It is a fantasy in the sense of a daydream. And in daydreams, things possess an unreality that fiction rarely does.

Daydreams are places for us to idealize ourselves and the world around us. And that's what Twilight is. A world idealized from the perspective of a sexually naive teenage girl.

As long as you understand that it's a book to be read and forgotten, just a daydream to while away a few pleasant hours with, Twilight isn't bad. It's a lot like a Michael Bay movie, but with romance instead of explosions.

Calling it any sort of food for thought or literary achievement, however, is overstepping.

Anyway, that's just my opinion after having read all the books.

I loved this series as well. It definitely brought me back to my high school days and young love. The whole twilight saga is intense one moment and funny the next. You feel like you are rooting for both Jacob and Edward. Though I wish Stephanie Meyers would write a book about Edwards point of view to see what he is thinking or doing when he wasn't around Bella especially during the first and second book.

I loved this series so much! I read it and then watched the movies and I'm still not sure if they did a good job going from the book to the movie, but it's still such a good series!! I read 3 in 24 hours and the others in the next day. I LOVED THIS SERIES.

The Twilight series is one of my favorites ever. I loved the first book and the third ones especially, although the other two were good as well. I reread the whole series all the time.

Love this series - Breaking Dawn being my favourite. I find it interesting that many people did not like the last book (most common criticism is that there was no fight at the end) but I loved it. All the predictions I had for how the series could end did not go like the book went - therefore it was not predictable! One of my favourite things about a book!

I absolutely loved these books. My sister recommended them to me when the first movie was about to be released. I hadn't heard of them yet. I picked up Twilight at 9:45pm on a Wednseday night got home at about 11pm and started reading. I couldn't put it down and read the entire book by 2:00am.

Even though I'm in my mid-30's, I love these books! Stephanie Meyers writing style is wonderful. I was hooked from the very beginning and I'm a sucker for a forbidden love type story. The Twilight series is a wonderful mix of adventure, fantasy, and love that I still find entertaining.

I am constantly comparing other young adult fiction to the Twilight series, especially if it's meant to be romantic. If it doesn't measure up I'm usually pretty disappointed. I love her vivid characters, and the fact that she thought up the idea for the entire saga in a dream is wonderful. I wish that my dreams were that useful! There is a reason that these books are so popular despite the negative hype surrounding the movies. I've lost count of how many times I've read them.

I read the entire series and was held in suspense from the beginning. I am a fan of Stephaine Meyers. I believe she did such a wonderful job at her detail and description. Developing the plot at a pace that made the reader want to scream though. I was in constant cliffhanger mode every time I had to put the book down. I both love and hate this. It makes for an amazing read and makes me very irritated that I cannot stop everything until done.

Oh man.. that series brings back memories...
I read it in high school and was in LOVE. I was totally that girl that got all of her friends to read it, and even some of my teachers too! I was definitely disappointed by the movies like most people.. but come on they weren't as bad as like the Percy Jackson movie adaptations or something (in my opinion). Now I'm almost 23 so I'm not the same obsessed girl that I used to be. But I will say it will always hold a special place in my heart! <3

BTW, can you believe Twilight turns 10 this year?!!! What?!! Stephenie will be in Forks on Sept. 12 to meet fans during the 10-year anniversary! Some of my friends get to go! I'm jealous.

I loved these books. They were so engaging I simply couldn't put them down. I bought them for my teenager, it was all the rage at the time (before the movies came out) and ended up reading them myself! I am not exaggerating, I read all of them -twice- in 5 days. I was narrating my own thoughts and realized at that point that I needed to take a break from reading. These books reignited my own passion for the written word, and I have my own finished series to thank for that! I always recommend these books, and I always defend them!

I read the twilight books just as they became popular and I absolutely love them, the storyline about teenage love really related to me at age 15 and it gave me an "escape" from what I was going through at that time. Even now they bring me joy.

I absolutely loved the series while reading it in high school and managed to read all four books in about a week altogether. I absolutely HATED the movies mostly because of casting. I feel like the actor portrayal was far different than how the characters actually behaved, body movements especially. The chemistry in the book seemed so effortless and natural, a very breathtaking romance, but the movie seemed forced and awkward. I still love to go back and reread the series to catch up on anything I may have missed on the 15 times I had read it before. I'm not sure how well this story will hold up in time though.

I really didn't want to like these books, simply because I'm not a big fan of the vampire/werewolf genre. However, the love story hooked me from the beginning. I loved this series and have reread them at least 7 or 8 times. The last book got a little long with all the characters gathering together to meet the Volturi but I felt the story come full circle at the end. I got sucked in and absolutely love these books! (Books, not movies...the acting was beyond terrible!)
