Even adults could learn a thing or two from this book about treating others right. This looks like an adventurous yet fulfilling novel for young readers; even young ladies would love the inclusion of mermaids. Thanks for the review!

"The Foundlings and the Fisherman from Tumby" by Phillip Leighton-Daly is a poignant narrative that delves into themes of selflessness, sacrifice, and the enduring battle between good and evil. The story centers on John and Margaret Treves, a couple who, despite facing significant personal tragedies, dedicate themselves to aiding children at a mission and supporting individuals in a leper colony. Their altruistic actions transform the town of Tumby into a beacon of compassion and kindness.

Leighton-Daly's writing is rich in allegory, particularly evident in John Treves's interactions with the malevolent merqueen. This relationship serves as a metaphor for the corrupt and wicked elements present in contemporary society, contrasting starkly with the Treves' unwavering generosity. The narrative invites readers to reflect on the profound impact of selfless deeds and the moral dichotomies that define human existence.

The book is further enhanced by its vivid illustrations, which bring the story to life and provide a visual depth that complements the text. These illustrations not only captivate the reader's imagination but also reinforce the narrative's themes and emotions.

While the story is imbued with valuable lessons suitable for both young readers and adults, some critiques have been noted. Certain characters could benefit from deeper development, and there are instances where the plot progression feels abrupt. Additionally, the language, though poetic, may pose challenges for younger readers due to its complexity.

In conclusion, "The Foundlings and the Fisherman from Tumby" offers a touching exploration of human virtues and vices. Its allegorical narrative and compelling illustrations make it a noteworthy read for those interested in tales that reflect on the essence of humanity.

Thank you for a compelling review of "The Foundlings and Fisherman from Tumby" by Phillip Leighton-Daly. It contains valuable lessons for both young and old. I like the way Jon and Margaret stood up against the evil of their time, though it was a costly decision. Congrats on BOTD.

"The Foundlings and Fisherman from Tumby" by Phillip Leighton-Daly is a story about anti-slavery supporters and the massacre of the Lawrence, Kansas by Captain William Quantrill. Jon narrates the story and he and his wife lost their twin children to the massacre and then they were exiled to Australia since Quantrill threatened to come back and kill again. Jon’s narration changes in the story to a third-person perspective. The trip to Australia ended in shipwreck and the captain of the ship was more interested in claiming the inheritances of the passengers than saving their lives from a ship that was close to capsizing. Jon taught other passengers the process for detoxing toxic wild fruit and thus increasing the food supply for the shipwrecked passengers. The book was written for teens and it provides several life lessons including always doing good and sacrificing one’s comfort for others. Jon and Margaret will always be remembered for their selfless contribution to society including the leper colony.

This sounds like an excellent book and the type I would love to read. If only the couple's children didn't have to die. It would be great to learn those survival techniques to survive a shipwreck.
Thank you for the review.

"The Foundlings and the Fisherman from Tumby" by Phillip Leighton-Daly is a beautiful story of kindness and courage. The fisherman's selflessness and care for the people in the colony is a testament that you don't need to have a lot of money or resources to help others and make a difference in their lives.

Readers will be captivated by the story of Jon and Margaret, two anti-slavery compatriots. They lost their home in Kansas, plus their two children, following a raid by a greedy captain who razed their town. The couple's voyage to Australia ushers new beginnings and presents unique challenges.

Jon and Margaret are perfect examples of what it means to pay the ultimate price for what you believe in. They chose to stand against slavery and it cost the lives of their children. I'd love to see how their story unfolds.

Standing up to oppressors is not commonly seen because of the repercussions, which could affect those dear to you as Jon and Margaret experienced first hand. This book sounds as an exciting read. Congratulations on BOTD.

It sounds like Jon and Margaret are facing some interesting challenges after fighting slavery and being exiled to Australia. This Book show us when John and Margaret chose to become anti -slavery supporters. Then John and Margaret were exiled to Australia, fearing for their lives after Quantrill threatened to attack again. Phillip Leighton, author of "The Foundlings and Fisherman from Tumby." Reading Daly about resisting dictators seems like a wise decision.

It's not easy to stand up for injustice. But not doing anything is worse. Jon and Margaret take their stance against slavery. This endangers their life and their children and they flee to Australia. The challenges that they face seem interesting to read about.
