The book of Galatians 6:7 states that ‘Make no mistake: God can’t be mocked. What you give is what you get. What you sow, you harvest’. Youthful exuberance is made up of pleasures that come with repercussions. Some teenagers disregard these assertions and act contrary to the laws of God and nature. Mickey and Jasmine are teenage girls who decided to be in a relationship with the opposite sex at a tender age. They disliked each other and compete with themselves at the slightest opportunity. Jasmine successfully snatched Mickey’s boyfriend leaving her in pain. Little did Jasmine know that karma was waiting at her door. She has written this book to advise the youth and the world at large. Simple Pleasures is a young adult’s book written by Jacara Reid.

This is one of the finest stories for the youth of this generation. It contains lots of lessons based on the real-life experience of the author. Readers learn that ‘karma spares no one’. The book is filled with lots of suspense that get readers glued to their seats for hours. There is a distinction between the characters and their respective roles. The title of the book is relevant to its contents. Indeed, simple pleasures can cause consequences difficult to bear. The language used is simple and within the comprehension of an average reader. The book is split into chapters. Each chapter has a distinct title. Adults will find this book a useful tool for counselling the youth. I highly recommend this book to teenagers.

However, I realised that the book is not professionally edited. There are lots of typographical errors and missing punctuation marks. Aside from these, the book is grammatically handicapped. I will describe the contents of the book as ‘factually correct but grammatically incorrect’. The author did not adhere to basic grammatical rules. It is clear that English is not the native language of the author. I recommend the author uses the services of a professional editor.

Furthermore, the date of publication is not stated. It is necessary to make the date of the publication known to readers for the purpose of making references. I read the book on my android tablet and on a desktop computer. I realised that the font sizes on the Android tablet device are so small. I recommend the author tests her books on all devices before publishing. The above limitations have significantly undermined the quality of this book.

Unfortunately, I have to remove two stars. I hope the author will fix the above limitations so I can grade her book with a distinction. I, therefore, rate Simple Pleasures by Jacara Reid 2 out of 4 stars.

Too bad that otherwise interesting and useful for the young adults book is poorly edited. But it still sounds like an engaging read even for adult readers. Thank you for the review!

I'm not sure I care about what date this was published, but it does sound like an interesting story. It is too bad that it has so many errors. Hopefully the author can get an editor to fix some of these issues. Thanks for the review.

This book sounds like a great resource for the high school crowd but I am with you - grammar and punctuation need to be correct! Especially, with the youth of today who limit their writing to texting and twitter. I feel that authors need to be the role model when it comes to writing correctly. Thank you for the honest review!

Not really my cup of tea, and it is too bad about all of the errors. That being said, it was a well-written review!

This sounds like good material for a youth group study. The target audience is at an age when they do not consider the consequences of their actions. I appreciate your comments about the stories and the editing issues. Thanks.
