A thrilling adventure unfolds in Dew Pellucidʼs The Crystilleries of Echoland. Hundreds of people have mysteriously disappeared without a trace from the Sound Realm. And none have ever returned, except for Will Cleary. His twin, Emmy, was also among the missing. She has not been seen in over ten years. Will's parents have been in a sort of trance since they were taken, his father searching endlessly in newspapers and books for any clue that will lead him to his daughter. Will's mother also spends her days looking for his sister. He feels that he is invisible in a way. Their attention is fixated on finding their lost child instead of cherishing the one child that was miraculously brought back by a wolf and falcon all those years ago. But on a wintry day in December, Will is thrust into another realm, the realm of Echoes. He hopes to find his long-lost sister and return her to their family.
Danger lurks in Echoland, a place of lucent people, called Echoes, and crystal clear landscapes. Each Echo is the shadow of a Sound, someone from our world. A wicked law has decreed that whenever a Sound dies, their Echo must be executed. While Will is on a mission to find his sister, he realizes that the tangled plot is much bigger than he and his twin. Will meets his Echo and has to travel to great lengths to uncover the dark secrets that have been hanging over Echoland. Can he save the other fugitive Sounds trapped in Echoland from the evil Fate Sealers? And who is using the Fate Sealers as pawns for their own purposes?
I loved this audiobook with the vocal styling of B. J. Harrison. He skillfully brings each character to life with their own accent and tone. It was so much more than listening to someone read a book. I imagine this is what it was like to listen to a radio show back in the day. Every time I would turn the book on I found myself transported to Echoland. One of my favorite characters was Will's friend, Peter, and his dog. The voice that Harrison created for Peter was perfect. I could see his face. I imagined it being a bit chubby, with round glasses, and an adorable wrinkle to his nose whenever anything upset him.
I thought I had figured out the ending, but I was pleasantly surprised by how it all ended. I applaud any author who can keep me guessing until the end. I believe this is the first book in a series. Pellucid did a great job of tying up the loose ends for this story and setting up the plot for the next. I look forward to reading the second book.
The writing was superb. I loved the imagery and each character was well-developed. Pellucid did a fantastic job of creating the world of Echoland, not only the scenery but the culture and customs. I could find nothing I did not like about the book and no errors whatsoever. For this reason, I award The Crystilleries of Echoland a 4 out of 4 stars. I believe that people who enjoy fantasy and adventure will like this book. It reminded me of The Chronicles of Narnia in many ways. Get ready for a story filled with suspense, magic, and surprises. I highly recommend getting the audiobook!

Thank you, yes it was a great first audiobook experience.esp1975 wrote: ↑23 Jun 2019, 12:16 I also really enjoyed the audiobook, and thought that the important characters were fully developed. Peter and Poudini were favorites of mine, as well. While I did not like it quite as much as you, I love reading reviews where someone really enjoyed the book, and it comes through.

I think this special attraction might be due to the use of "lively" characters.
