If you love YA books, then Island Games by Caleb Boyer would be a great selection for you! Filled with danger, intrigue, suspense, and adventure, this book kept me turning the pages until the very end. When two teenage boys wake up on a deserted island with no idea how they got there, they quickly figure out that survival is the name of the game!

Matthew and Ryan have been friends since they were young and now must figure out how to survive together on this deserted island, using their wits and the limited tools and resources that they have been given. With little to no memory of their lives, other than that they are friends, it quickly becomes apparent that they have been put there for a reason. Who is the mastermind behind this elaborate game? They may never know, but they must play the game. It is a requirement for survival.

Quickly, Matthew and Ryan figure out the hard way that they must work together as a team to be successful. There is a new challenge around every corner for the boys, with the distant promise of survival on the horizon. Each of these challenges come with their own set of obstacles, such as weather, geographical location, degree of difficulty, and limited tools to complete the challenge. Will their friendship survive once all is said and done?

I also feel that the book begs the question of the reader - What would you do if you woke up with a teenage friend on a deserted island? Would you quickly compile resources to help with survival, or would you panic and not know what to do next? In my opinion, a sign of an exceptionally well written book is when you put yourself in the role of the main character, challenging yourself to think about what you would do if you were in their situation.

What I liked most about the book was the simple story line, which flows nicely and keeps the reader captivated. Other than the cliffhanger ending, I didn't have any unanswered questions about the story. I encountered no grammar errors, profanity, or sexual situations. What made the story even more amazing is that it was written by a 12-year-old boy! There was nothing that I disliked about this book. I would give it 4 out of 4 stars.

I would recommend this book primarily to the YA audience, but I think the book would be an enjoyable read, no matter your age. The cliffhanger ending leaves you wondering if there will be another book in the future....
