War from a little boy's perspective is always such an emotional ride for me. It's a really nice plot but sadly I won't be reading. Nice review, thanks!

This is perhaps one of the few war fiction books that tells the story in the perspective of a young boy, and it is great that the author chose to write a novel taking place in World War II-era Philippines since it is rarely touched upon in this genre. Thank you for the detailed review!

Thanks for the informative review. I love historical fiction, and most I have read usually focus on a particular event in history. Wonks seems to take a different direction and looks at adolescence amid a raging war. It is intriguing indeed. Congrats on being the BOTD.

As a Filipino, I have mixed feelings about this. For now, though, I agree that it would be interesting to read about how the war affected adolescents like Johnny.

I believe a book like this gives the reader a different perspective on how those who lived in times of war got through those hard times. What an amazing book.

This book seems like an intense story. I thought it was powerful from the start and the drama pulled me right in. It’s great that it’s well-edited. Thanks for an in-depth review!

This is really an educative review and would be great if made into a movie. It explicitly explained the effects of war on youths. Congrats on being the book of the day.

Although experiences in the camp are not something to laugh about, I like the fact that the book creates avenues for the reader to have a good laugh. I hope Johnny and the others were at the long run liberated from the camp. Great review, thank you.

I'm definitely adding this book to my reading list! I love books that relate to the WW2 era, and the fact that this story is told from the point of view of an adolescent living through this time period makes it all the more appealing. I look forward to reading it. Thank you for the great review!

A different perspective for a war novel! I must say that raw, realistic and hopeful enthusiasm of a preteen would definitely help lighten the heavier aspects of war, and I would really like to dive into this one to see what it is all about. Thank you so much for the insightful and honest review! Happy reading :techie-studyinggray:
