Review by bubblyLuna -- The Crystilleries of Echoland
A cross between Harry Potter and The Golden Compass.
The Crystilleries of Echoland by Dew Pellucid is a novel filled with magic, wonder, and mystery that leaves you wanting more. This fantasy novel follows a twelve-year-old boy named Will Cleary who was captured and taken to another world when he was three years old. Miraculously, only Will has returned home after being captured out of thousands of other children, including his twin sister. Even though Will has returned, his family has not stopped looking for his sister and tries everything to find her.
One day, Will’s pets tell him about another world called Echoland where his sister and the other missing children are. With this news, Will goes into Echoland to find his sister and bring her home. Along the way, Will starts to understand how Echoland functions and discovers that it is a mirror world of the one he lives in. Echos are people who live in Echoland and Sounds are the people living above ground, creating an order that forms Echoland’s laws. Will meets many Echos and Sounds, who help him reunite with his sister but finding her leads him to go on a quest to clear the recently murdered Echo King’s name. With not much time, and Will and his Echo’s life on the line, Will must find out the truth even if it means he cannot leave Echoland and return home.
One thing I liked in the novel was the different voices in the audiobook, giving each character a life of their own. I could connect and relate to each character because they appeared unique, not just because of the writing style but also through the voices behind the characters. The voices give another dimension to the characters and make you feel emerged into the world that Pellucid has created. Another thing that I liked in the novel was the worldbuilding that took place. I really like how the comparisons between Sounds and Echos are displayed with seasons and appearances. Lots of small details helped create a cohesive story that I couldn’t get enough of. However, I didn’t like how some characters were not given as much depth as others. Each character gets their own moment in the spotlight at one point or another but I still wanted to know more or see some characters appear again. I would have loved to see more of Will’s pets in Echoland but I understand their reason for not appearing.
I would give The Crystilleries of Echoland 4 out of 4 stars because I found it fascinating with good pacing, characters, and plot. I found the pacing of the novel to be perfect because it didn’t linger or get pulled too thin in places making it enjoyable. I also liked the plot of the novel through its journey of self-discovery and self-growth teachings. I thought that the amount of attention to detail was very good and made everything click into place creating a wonderful atmosphere that transports the reader into the world.
I believe that this book is a YA and/or children’s novel but anyone would enjoy reading or listening to. If you liked Harry Potter you need to read this book!

An apt description! I have recently finished reading and reviewing this book myself and I enjoyed it as much as you seem to have. I agree that BJ Harrison did a brilliant job narrating it. Thanks for the great review! P.S. Love your profile pic!
